
Dakota Faichnie Captures Bronze in Doubles Play at 2018 World Bowling Youth Championships

Rising Ladyjack sophomore helps team Canada claim first medal at World Youth Championship since 2006
DETROIT, Mich. – Stephen F. Austin bowling's very own Dakota Faichnie helped team Canada capture a bronze medal in doubles competition Tuesday at the 2018 World Bowling Youth Championships in Allen Park, Michigan. Faichnie, a rising sophomore for the Ladyjacks, teamed up with Mykaela Mitchell to claim team Canada's first medal at the World Youth Championship since 2006.
The duo claimed a pinfall total of 2,585 with a game average of 215.42 through six games to reach the semifinal round of doubles play. Faichnie, a native of Innisfil, Ontario, Canada, knocked down 1,253 pins in the six games and averaged a score of 208.83, bowling five consecutive games over 200. In their semifinal matchup with Mexico, who held the highest score following the opening six games of doubles play, Faichnie and Mitchell were out-bowled 421-355. Neither were able to bowl a game over 200 in the defeat as Mexico went on to capture gold by edging the U.S. 433-420.
One of four female bowlers representing Canada, Faichnie took on a field of 82 total competitors this past Saturday in singles competition. She finished 63rd after averaging a score of 182 through six games and knocking down a total of 1,092 pins, claiming a 205 in game two.
Held at the Thunderbowl Lanes just outside of Detroit, Michigan, Tuesday, July 24 – Friday, Aug. 3 and hosted by World Bowling, the Detroit Sports Commission and Thunderbowl Lanes, the 2018 World Youth Championship is an international event comprised of some of the top youth bowlers in the world, aged 13-21, with 37 different countries represented.
The international championships continue Wednesday with the second block of team of four competition. Faichnie and team Canada sit in 16th place through three games in the team competition with a game average score of 187.33 and a pinfall total of 2,248. The 10-day event will wrap up with team semifinals and finals Thursday, followed by masters competition Thursday and Friday.
