Complete 2018 STATS FCS Preseason All-America Teams
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Ten football players from the Southland Conference were selected to the 2018 STATS FCS Preseason All-America teams and among them is Stephen F. Austin graduate student long snapper Chris Wilkerson. The Waller, Texas, native has been tabbed a preseason All-American First Team special teams player with the announcement of the preseason teams Tuesday.
Wilkerson, who received his bachelor's degree in kinesiology in May, enters his third season as the Lumberjacks' starting long snapper. A true NFL prospect, Wilkerson will begin his fifth season in an SFA jersey this fall after redshirting as a true freshman in 2014. He has appeared in each of the Lumberjacks' 22 games over the last two seasons, providing reliable snaps on punts, field goals and extra points.
Playing in a total of 32 games over the last three seasons, Wilkerson claimed a tackle on punt coverage during SFA's thrilling 37-31 home victory over the University of the Incarnate Word last fall. He also recovered a fumble during the 2017 season, scooping up a loose ball in the 34-7 road rout of Lamar. Off the field, Wilkerson has served as SFA's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) president for both the 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years and was named the school's 2017 Homecoming King.
The 'Jacks are one of six teams from the league to be represented on the STATS FCS Preseason All-America teams. Sam Houston State led the league with four preseason All-American selections, followed by Nicholls with two and one each from SFA, Central Arkansas, McNeese and Southeastern Louisiana.

SFA will participate in 20 total practices, including three full-pad intra-squad scrimmages, over a three week period from Friday, Aug. 3 – Friday, Aug. 24 in preparation for their fall campaign.
