
Rising Sophomore Dakota Faichnie to Compete in World Bowling Youth Championships

Faichnie will compete for junior team Canada at the 2018 World Youth Championship in Michigan over the next week
DETROIT, Mich. – The Stephen F. Austin bowling program will once again be represented at the World Youth Championships as Ladyjack rising sophomore Dakota Faichnie is set to compete for junior team Canada. The 2018 World Youth Championship, hosted by World Bowling, the Detroit Sports Commission and Thunderbowl Lanes, takes place outside of Detroit, Michigan, in Allen Park, Michigan, at the Thunderbowl Lanes Tuesday, July 24 – Friday, Aug. 3.
The over week long international event is comprised of some of the top youth bowlers in the world, aged 13-21, with 37 different countries represented.
Faichnie, a native of Innisfil, Ontario, Canada, is one of four female bowlers representing Canada and will bowl in singles, doubles and team of four competition. With a field of 82 total female bowlers, singles competition will take place Saturday, July 28, followed by doubles play Sunday and Monday July 29-30 and team competition Tuesday-Thursday, July 31-Aug. 2.
Most recently, Faichnie was one of four SFA bowlers who bowled at the United States Bowling Congress' (USBC) 2018 Junior Gold Championships, an annual national tournament for the top male and female youth bowlers in the United States. Competing among a field of over 850 competitors in the U20 division, Faichnie reached the advancers round after making the 123-person cut in the fourth qualifying round. She finished 87th following the five qualifying rounds as the Ladyjacks' second-highest finisher. Faichnie averaged a 190.95 score over the course of 21 games and owned a pinfall total of 4,010. Bowling two consecutive games of 225 in games nine and 10, Faichnie posted three games over 200 in the five-game advancers round.
