
Quartet of Ladyjack Bowlers Perform Well at USBC’s Junior Gold Championships

DALLAS, Texas – Four Stephen F. Austin bowlers competed last week (July 14-21) in Dallas at the United States Bowling Congress' (USBC) 2018 Junior Gold Championships, an annual national tournament for the top male and female youth bowlers in the United States. Incoming Ladyjack freshman Carlene Beyer, sophomore Dakota Faichnie, junior Megan Eaglehouse and sophomore Sarah Voiers all bowled in the U20 division and rivaled for a spot on Junior Team USA.
Bowling among a field of over 850 competitors in the division, the quartet of Ladyjacks participated in five days of high-level competition comprised of over 20 games.
Beyer, a native of Ogdensburg, Wisconsin, advanced to the final advancers round after making the 64-person cut in the advancers round. She finished 34th overall following the six qualifying rounds, averaging a 197.23 score across 26 games and knocking down a total of 5,128 pins. The incoming freshman placed the highest of any SFA bowler and bowled an impressive 278 in the 19th game and a 232 in game 23.
Faichnie, Eaglehouse and Voiers all reached the advancers round after making the 123-person cut in the fourth qualifying round. Finishing 87th following five qualifying rounds, Faichnie was the second-highest Ladyjack finisher at the national tournament. The Innisfil, Ontario, Canada, native averaged a 190.95 over the course of 21 games and knocked down 4,010 total pins. She bowled two consecutive games of 225 in games nine and 10 and posted three games over 200 in the five-game advancers round.
Eaglehouse placed 102nd overall after averaging a score of 188.24 through 21 games. The Cibolo, Texas, native claimed a pinfall total of 3,953 and bowled a 215 in her final game of the tournament. Voiers, a native of Chesterton, Indiana, finished 106th among all competitors with a 187.90 average and a 3,946 pinfall total in 21 games. She notched seven games over 200 and rolled a 221 in the 11th game.
Faichnie will continue her busy summer later this week at the 2018 World Bowling Youth Championships in Detroit, Michigan, where she will be competing for team Canada.
