
Women’s Golf Signs Zayda Cedillo to 2018 Class

Ladyjacks welcome incoming freshman as lone signee of 2018 class
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Head coach Trey Schroeder and assistant coach Daniel DeLuca announced the signing of Zayda Cedillo to the Stephen F. Austin women's golf team Thursday afternoon. Cedillo, a native of Inez, Texas, represents the Ladyjacks' lone signee of the 2018 class.
"We are excited Zayda has signed to become a Ladyjack golfer and pursue a degree from SFA," coach Schroeder said. "Zayda is a fiery competitor and will be a great addition to our squad next year. Victoria East High School head coach Mike Smith has done a great job coaching Zayda and speaks highly about her character. I look forward to watching Zayda make her mark on the Ladyjack golf program over the next four years."
A four-year letter winner at Victoria East High School, Cedillo had a standout senior year after leading the Titans to three consecutive district championships. After claiming runner-up individual finishes at districts her freshman and junior years, Cedillo captured the district championship as a senior with individual round scores of 74 and 75. She was named district MVP and placed second at regionals en route to earning first-team all-region honors. Based on her regionals performance, Cedillo advanced to the state tournament where she was named all-state honorable mention. Cedillo posted five first-place finishes throughout her senior season and notched her first hole-in-one on Oct. 6, 2017. She also shot a career-low 69 this past October and led Victoria East to a sixth-place showing at regionals and three tournament team wins.
As a junior, Cedillo placed eighth at regionals as an individual and advanced to the state tournament, while aiding the Titans to a third-place team finish at regionals and an 11th-place showing at the state championship. Her sophomore campaign, Cedillo qualified for regionals after taking home fifth place at districts. Placing second at districts as an individual her freshman season, Cedillo qualified for regionals and helped Victoria East to a runner-up district showing.
Outside of her prep career at Victoria East, Cedillo has spent time competing on junior golf tours, including the Southern Texas PGA (STPGA), STPGA Prestige Tour and Texas Junior Golf Tour (TJGT). The daughter of Diana and Roland Cedillo, Zayda plans on majoring in business management at SFA.
