
Stephanie Schwartz Named to NTCA All-American First Team for Fourth-Straight Year

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – For the first time in the history of the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) a NCAA Division I bowler has been named NTCA All-American First Team four times. The remarkable feat came to fruition Wednesday night as the NTCA announced its 2017-18 honorees at the NCAA Awards Banquet and Stephen F. Austin bowling's own Stephanie Schwartz was named NTCA All-American First Team for the fourth-straight year. The senior has claimed NTCA All-American First Team honors every year of her Ladyjack career.
In addition to being named to the five-member first team, Schwartz was honored as an NTCA National Statistical Leader for her 21.363 individual Baker frame average for the season. In its first year of existence, the NTCA National Statistical Leader Awards Program honors outstanding individual and team season-long accomplishments and recognizes season-long statistical leaders in seven team categories and six individual categories.
Schwartz finished the season among the top bowlers in the nation in several statistical categories, including ranking second in both overall frame average (21.23) and strike percentage (55.5%). She finished third nationally in both filled frame percentage (88.4%) and Baker double percentage (55.1%), while ranking ninth in traditional game frame average (21.04) and percentage of 200 games (63.4%).
The Racine, Wisconsin (Washington Park HS), native averaged a team-best 210.04 score per game in 45 individual games throughout 2017-18 and knocked down 9,452 total pins. Schwartz posted a score of 200 or greater in 29 individual games and bowled a career-high game of 290 against 25th-ranked Prairie View A&M at the Prairie View A&M Invitational on Feb. 3. Just 10 pins shy of a perfect game, she tied SFA's program record for the highest individual game.
Tallying five top-20 individual finishes, including two top-10 placements, in nine tournaments competed in, Schwartz garnered MVP honors in the Ladyjacks' first event of the season at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Invitational Oct. 20-22. She finished as the top bowler among 90 total competitors in New Orleans, Louisiana, averaging a 245.6 score in five traditional team games and racking up 1,228 total pins. For her performance at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Invitational and the following week at the Brunswick Bearcat Open, where she placed 14th among 177 total bowlers, Schwartz was named Southland Bowling League October Bowler of the month.
This spring, Schwartz finished eighth among 110 total bowlers at SFA's own Stormin' Ladyjack Classic (Feb. 16-18) in Houston with a pinfall total of 1,053 and an average of 210.6 in five individual games. Most recently, she was named to the 2018 Southland Bowling League Championship All-Tournament Team after averaging a 206.75 score in four traditional team matches, including registering a 240 in the Ladyjacks' semifinal upset of second-seeded and fourth-ranked Vanderbilt.
Schwartz led SFA to six top-five team finishes in 2017-18, including a run at the Southland Bowling League Championship that resulted in the Ladyjacks taking home runner-up honors. SFA finished third at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Invitational and completed the season with a 75-50 (.600) record in all matches bowled.
