Men’s Golf Climbs into Tie for Third Tuesday at ORU/SFA Spring Break Challenge

‘Jacks shoot 7-over 291 for second consecutive day to own two-round total of 14-over 582
IRVING, Texas – For the second-straight day, the Stephen F. Austin men's golf team shot a 7-over 291 at its own ORU/SFA Spring Break Challenge at the TPC Four Seasons Las Colinas in Irving, Texas. Owning a two-round total of 14-over 582, the Lumberjacks are now tied for third with Illinois State in the 16-team field.
SFA is just five strokes off of the lead as Rice sits atop the field with a two-day total of 9-over 577. North Texas stands in second place with a 12-over 580.
One day after tallying a season-best 4-under 67, the fourth-lowest single round score in school history, and leading all 90 golfers, senior Blake Stock (Hewitt, Texas) slid into a tie for third place on the individual leaderboard Tuesday with a second-round showing of 3-over 74. With a two-round total of 1-under 141, Stock is just one-stroke off of the lead, which is held by Rice's Mitchell Meissner and Mario Carmona at 2-under 140.
Freshman Andy Lopez (Dallas, Texas) jumped into the top 10 and now sits tied for seventh after registering an even-par 71 in the second round, climbing 13 spots on the leaderboard with a two-day total of 2-over 144. Junior Angelo Leyvani (San Antonio, Texas) shot a 3-over 74 in round two Tuesday but moved four spots up on the leaderboard and is tied for 15th with a 5-over 147.
Etching five strokes off of his first-round performance, junior Jake Hendrix (Austin, Texas) posted a 1-over 73 on the par-71, 6,791-yard course to stand tied for 35th with a cumulative score of 9-over 151. Likewise, freshman Steven Fabik (Carrollton, Texas) knocked seven strokes off of his opening 18-hole score, tallying a 1-over 73 in the second round to tie for 47th.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament wraps up Wednesday, March 14 for the final round of the event with an 8 a.m. double tee off of holes No. 1 and No. 10. The 'Jacks are paired with the top two teams in the field, Rice and North Texas, for Wednesday's third round of play and will tee off from 9:40-10:20 a.m. Fabik will tee off first for SFA at 9:40 a.m., followed by Hendrix at 9:50 a.m., Leyvani at 10 a.m., Lopez at 10:10 a.m. and Stock at 10:20 a.m.
