‘Jacks Fifth after Opening Round of ORU/SFA Spring Break Challenge Monday

SFA shoots a 7-over 291 in the first round of the SFA/ORU Spring Break Challenge as senior Blake Stock ties the fourth-lowest single round score in program history
IRVING, Texas – Co-hosting the ORU/SFA Spring Break Challenge this week at the TPC Four Season Las Colinas Golf Course in Irving, Texas, the Stephen F. Austin men's golf team shot a 7-over 291 in the opening round Monday to sit in fifth place among 16 total teams. Senior Blake Stock leads the Lumberjacks and the tournament's field of 90 total golfers after shooting an impressive 4-under 67 in the first round, tying the fourth-lowest single round score in school history.
SFA is just one stroke behind three teams tied for second place on the leaderboard – Illinois State, North Texas, Cal State Fullerton – while Rice holds a five-stroke advantage at the top spot through the first 18 holes of play.
Teeing off in their second tournament since Thursday of last week, the 'Jacks have a total of three players sitting in the top 20 on the individual leaderboard after round one. Both junior Angelo Leyvani (San Antonio, Texas) and freshman Andy Lopez (Dallas, Texas) are tied for 19th six strokes behind Hewitt, Texas, native Stock. The pair shot a 2-over 73 on the par-71, 6,791-yard course Monday, while junior Jake Hendrix (Austin, Texas) recorded a 7-over 78 to stand tied for 55th.
Rounding out SFA's first-round play was freshman Steven Fabik (Carrollton, Texas), who is tied for 63rd after registering a 9-over 80 Monday afternoon.
Stock owns just a single stroke lead as Rice's Mario Carmona stands in second place with a 3-under 68. Both Illinois State's David Rauer and North Texas' Thomas Rosenmueller shot 2-under 69 in the opening round to sit tied for third.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament continues Tuesday, March 13 with the second round of play, which is scheduled to begin with 8:30 a.m. tee times for the second consecutive day. The third and final round of the event Wednesday, March 14 will feature an 8 a.m. double tee off of holes No. 1 and No. 10.
The 'Jacks are paired with Cal State Fullerton and tournament co-host Oral Roberts for round two and will tee off from 11:50 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Fabik will tee off first, followed by Hendrix, Lopez, Leyvani and Stock in order.
