WHITEWATER, Wis. – For the second consecutive National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll, the Stephen F. Austin bowling team finds themselves ranked seventh among the nation's top 25 teams. The Ladyjacks, who own a composite record of 56-34 through seven tournaments bowled in 2017-18, check in at No. 7 in the February edition of the top-25 poll after ranking sixth in the preseason poll and seventh in the December poll.
Nebraska continues as the top team in the nation after receiving 26 first-place votes, while defending national champion McKendree University is second with 17 first-place nods. The Southland Bowling League dominates spots three through five as Arkansas State checks in at No. 3, followed by No. 4 Vanderbilt and No. 5 Sam Houston State. Delaware State is sixth as No. 8 Maryland-Eastern Shore, No. 9 Tulane and No. 10 Fairleigh Dickinson round out the top 10.
SFA has posted 50-straight top-10 finishes dating back to February 2013 and owns four top-five finishes this season. The Ladyjacks are coming off of their first top-five finish of 2018 after placing fifth among 12 teams at the Prairie View A&M Invitational in Arlington, Texas, last weekend. In bracket play at the highly-competitive event, SFA took down No. 1 Nebraska 4-2.
Three players recorded season highs during the tournament as senior Stephanie Schwartz (Racine, Wis.) proved once again that she is one of the most elite bowlers in the nation with her program record tying 290 individual game during the win over host Prairie View A&M. Fellow senior Morgan Reising (Lewisville, Texas) claimed a season-high 269 against the Lady Panthers, while senior Kelsi Anderson (San Antonio, Texas) bowled her season-best individual game of 255 against North Carolina A&T.
Posting a season-best 11-2 record at the Kutztown Invite in Reading, Pennsylvania (Jan. 19-21), SFA has defeated a nationally-ranked opponent 34 times this season.
Up next for the Layjacks is SFA's own Stormin' Ladyjack Classic next Friday-Sunday, Feb. 16-18. The 18-team tournament will be hosted at the Copperfield Bowl in Houston, Texas. It will be the fourth consecutive year the Ladyjacks have hosted the event.
