ALBUQUERQUE, NM. -- A matchup of the two winning teams in the Lobo Invitational is set to take place inside Dreamstyle Arena on the campus of the University of New Mexico on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. MT (8:00 CST). SFA will battle the host Lobos, who enter the contest at 9-1 after dismantling Sacramento State in the nightcap on Wednesday. Both teams will be putting a winning streak on the line, as SFA enters on a four-game winning streak and the Lobos have won eight straight.
The game will be streamed live for free via Lobos TV, with the link for that stream posted above. As always, fans can hear a call of the game's action via FM Q107.7, with Bobby Mauro providing a call of the action. Live stats are available via a link above as well.
SFA's berth in the championship game of the invitational was punched thanks to a 70-68 victory over Hampton on Wednesday night, in which SFA jumped out to a healthy 15-point lead at the halftime break, before having to fight off a resurgent Lady Pirates squad in the second half to eke out the victory. Chanell Hayes tallied her third 20+ point effort of the season with a team-high 24, while Marissa Banfield notched 12 points for SFA.
In New Mexico, the Ladyjacks will face an opponent that bullied Sacramento State down low to the tune of 54 points in the paint, thanks in large part to 23 offensive rebounds. The Lobos weren't very effective from beyond the arc (3-17), but moved the ball well inside to score easily against the Hornets. Defensively, the Lobos held one of the nation's highest scoring offenses to a season-low 53 points on a paltry 24 percent shooting from the field and 23 percent from beyond the arc. New Mexico forced 23 turnovers by Sacramento State, leading to 21 points off those turnovers for the hosts. Jaisa Nunn leads UNM with 16.5 points per game, while Aisia Robertson is second on the team with 15.2 points.
