Ladyjacks Go 2-1 Sunday at Warhawk Classic, Close Out Fall with Sixth-Place Finish

SFA bowling defeats No. 22 Maryville University and No. 21 Wisconsin-Whitewater in bracket play Sunday, completes tournament with 7-6 record and a pinfall total of 12,712
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Completing its fall slate of tournaments at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater's Warhawk Classic, the SFA bowling team went 2-1 Sunday and earned a pair of Baker match wins over nationally-ranked opponents in the first two rounds of bracket play. The sixth-ranked and eighth-seeded Ladyjacks, who entered the final day of competition with a 5-5 record, jumped two spots in the final team standings for a sixth-place finish among 18 total teams.
SFA closed out the Warhawk Classic, held inside the AMF West Lanes in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with a pinfall total of 12,712 and a 7-6 record while reaching the fifth-place match Sunday after an impressive second round.
Facing seventh-seeded and 22nd-ranked Maryville University in the opening round, the Ladyjacks followed up a 193-170 game one triumph with a 208-179 game two win and recovered from a 220-167 game three setback with 184-176 and 175-166 game four and game five victories. Taking the first round 4-1, SFA bowled at least a 214 in four consecutive games in the second round against fifth-seeded and 21st-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater.
The Ladyjacks picked up a 4-0 shutout over tournament host Wisconsin-Whitewater with strong 225-223 game one, 214-203 game two, 219-190 game three and 244-202 game four wins.
For the fifth-straight game, SFA racked up over 200 pins as the Ladyjacks got out to a hot start in the fifth-place match against third-seeded and third-ranked Nebraska. SFA won the opening game in the best 4-of-7 bracket play Baker match with a day-high score of 257, compared to the Husker's 213. After bowling its sixth-straight 200-pin game in game two, the Ladyjacks were unable to reach 200 pins for the remainder of the match as Nebraska claimed 255-202 game two, 206-196 game three, 200-197 game four and 211-193 game five wins to take the match at 4-1.
Top-seeded and second-ranked McKendree University claimed the tournament title after defeating second-seeded and fifth-ranked Arkansas State 4-3 in the championship match. Fellow Southland Bowling League member Sam Houston State, who was the fourth seed and is ranked No. 4, earned third-place honors with a 4-1 win over SBL adversary and top-ranked Vanderbilt, who was seeded sixth in bracket play.

The Ladyjacks will have the remainder of the fall and the first part of the winter off from competition before returning to tournament play Friday-Sunday, Jan. 11-13 in Jonesboro, Arkansas, for Arkansas State's Mid-Winter Invitational.
