Little Rock Women’s Golf Classic Underway for Ladyjacks in Arkansas

Led by junior Paola Cortes, SFA shoots a 38-over 326 in Sunday’s opening round
HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. – The first round of the Little Rock Women's Golf Classic in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, proved to be challenging for the Stephen F. Austin women's golf team Sunday. The Ladyjacks shot a 38-over 326 on the par-72, 6,076-yard course at Diamante Country Club to begin the three-day, 54-hole tournament as UTEP and South Alabama lead the 16-team event field after carding team scores of 9-over 297 on the first 18 holes of play.
Junior Paola Cortes led all SFA golfers during Sunday's opening round, shooting an 8-over 80 to sit tied for 59th on the individual leaderboard among 95 total golfers. Fellow junior Alexandra Batista posted a 9-over 81 and is tied for 72nd, while Sophomore Kelly Yang turned in a first-round score of 10-over 82. Freshman Zayda Cedillo (11-over 83) and senior Erica Lautensack (12-over 84) round out the Ladyjacks' lineup at the tournament.
Lily Downs of UTEP leads the playing field after carding a 2-under 70 in the first round as Missouri State's Rachel Johnson and Lamar's Laura Pasalodos Barcelo are tied for second just one stroke off the pace at 1-under 71.
Round two of the Little Rock Women's Golf Classic will get underway Monday morning with 8:30 a.m. CST tee times once again, followed by an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start for the third and final round Tuesday.
SFA has been paired with fellow Southland Conference member Houston Baptist and individual golfers from Arkansas State, South Alabama and Jacksonville State for Monday's second round. Lautensack will get things started for the Ladyjacks at 9 a.m., followed by Cedillo teeing off at 9:09 a.m., Yang at 9:18 a.m., Batista at 9:27 a.m. and Cortes 9:36 a.m.
