Women’s Golf Completes Day One of Play at UT Arlington Invitational

Ladyjacks improve first-round score by 27 strokes, Paola Cortes tied for 14th following first two rounds
MANSFIELD, Texas – Junior Paola Cortes leads the Stephen F. Austin women's golf team after the opening two rounds of play at the UT Arlington Invitational in Mansfield, Texas. Shooting a 1-over 72 in round two, Cortes is tied for 14th among 49 total golfers with a two-round score of 11-over 153 to pace the Ladyjacks.
Competing as an individual, junior Alexandra Batista is tied for 17th after carding a 12-over 154 through the first 36 holes of play on the par-71, 6,015-yard Pecan Course at the Walnut Creek Country Club. Senior Erica Lautensack rose 15 spots on the individual leaderboard between the first and second rounds after posting a round two score of 2-over 73, she sits 29th with a tally of 17-over 159.
Sophomore Kelly Yang (18-over 160) claimed a 6-over 77 in the second round and is just one stroke behind Lautensack tied for 30th, while freshman Zayda Cedillo, who is making her debut in SFA's lineup, is tied for 35th with a 20-over 162.
Southern Utah's Chanikan (Pluem) Yongyuan and Arkansas State's Olivia Schmidt, who own a 4-over 146, are tied for the tournament lead as three players sit tied for third one stroke off the pace. Arkansas State leads the seven-team event field after carding a 27-over 595 Monday. South Alabama (28-over 596) is in second place just one stroke behind the Red Wolves, followed by Southern Utah (41-over 609) third.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament will conclude Tuesday morning with the third and final round teeing off at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. The Ladyjacks are paired with individual competitors for the last 18 holes of play as Cortes will tee off of hole 11, Lautensack and Batista off of hole 12, Yang from hole 13, Cedillo hole 14 and senior Jamee Jorgensen and sophomore Alexis Szewczyk hole 15.
