Leyvani Shoots Under Par Monday to Lead ‘Jacks at Jim Rivers Intercollegiate

Senior Angelo Leyvani tied for 11th, sophomore Steven Fabik tied for 25th after two rounds of play in the Pelican State
CHOUDRANT, La. – Senior Angelo Leyvani carded a pair of rounds at or below par Monday at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate in Choudrant, Louisiana, to lead the Stephen F. Austin men's golf team through 36 holes of play. Tied for 11th among an 85-man tournament field, Leyvani shot an even-par 72, followed by a 1-under 71 at the Squire Creek Country Club to hold a 36-hole total of 1-under 143.
Sophomore Steven Fabik, who is tied for 25th on the individual leaderboard, also had a productive Monday by turning in back-to-back scores of 1-over 73 in the first two rounds to hold a 2-over 146.
The Lumberjacks are tied for 13th with a team score of 27-over 603 but are just seven strokes outside the top 10 of the 15-team tournament. UAB shot an impressive 20-under 556 in the first two rounds and holds a slim, two-stroke lead over 13th-ranked Georgia (18-under 558) for the top spot on the team leaderboard, while 53rd-ranked Cincinnati (4-over 580) is in third place. Fellow Southland Conference member Lamar is fourth with a combined tally of 7-over 583.
Competing as an individual, freshman Isiah Henderson opened up the day with a four-over 76 and finished it with a 2-over 74 to stand tied for 45th with a two-round score of 6-over 150. Senior Jake Hendrix rose 11 spots on the individual leaderboard between the first and second rounds, posting scores of 5-over 77 and 2-over 74 to be tied for 51st with a 7-over 151.
Both making their Lumberjack debuts, sophomore Justin Benson (19-over 163) and redshirt sophomore Austin McKinney (26-over 170) completed the opening two rounds of play on the par-72, 7,070-yard course.
UAB's William Walker III claimed a 9-under 135 Monday to hold a one-stroke tournament lead over Georgia's Trent Phillips (8-under 136). The Blazer's John Hayden (7-under 137) sits just two strokes off the pace while three players are tied for fourth place.
Tuesday's third and final round of the 2018 Jim Rivers Intercollegiate will get underway at 8 a.m. CST with a shotgun start as SFA is paired with New Orleans, Nicholls and individual golfers. Leyvani and Henderson will tee off from hole 15 with Fabik getting started on hole 16, Hendrix hole 17, and McKinney and Benson hole 18.
