Ladyjacks Complete 36 Holes of Play Monday at Bearkat Invitational

Lautensack near top of player leaderboard, tied for 12th among 75 total golfers
MAGNOLIA, Texas – Weathering an afternoon lightning delay, the Stephen F. Austin women's golf team completed the first two rounds of play at fellow Southland Conference member Sam Houston State's Bearkat Invitational Monday evening. Through 36 holes, Senior Erica Lautensack sits near the top of the player leaderboard tied for 12th after shooting a 5-over 149 Monday.
The Ladyjacks opened up the two-day, 54-hole tournament held at the High Meadow Ranch Golf Club in Magnolia, Texas, by carding a 19-over 307 on the first 18 holes of play, before turning in a 24-over 312 for the second round. SFA stands in eighth place with a 43-over 619 total as event host Sam Houston State leads the 14-team field with a 6-over 582. Two-time defending Southland champion Houston Baptist (14-over 590) is eight strokes behind the lead after two rounds, while Lamar (20-over 596) sits in third place.
Lautensack notched a 1-over 73 on the par-72, 6,164-yard course Monday morning and shot a four-over 76 on the second 18 holes of play. Four Ladyjack golfers finished off day one within two strokes of each other. Junior Alexandra Batista claimed a 4-over 76 in the first round and completed Monday with a 12-over 156 to sit in 30th place on the player leaderboard. Both sophomores Alexis Szewczyk and Kelly Yang shot identical scores in the first two rounds (7-over 79 and 6-over 78) to hold 36-hole tallies of 13-over 157 in a four-way tie for 31st. Competing as an individual, junior Paola Cortes is just one stroke behind Szewczyk and Yang with a two-round total of 14-over 158 and is tied for 35th.
Senior Jamee Jorgensen owns a 21-over 165 after Monday's play and sits in a two-way tie for 57th.
HBU's Kaity Cummings and the Bearkats' Hannah Alberto both shot impressive day one scores of 4-under 140 to lead all 75 golfers. Lamar's Eva Martinez posted an even-par 144 through two rounds and is in third place.
The third and final round will conclude the Bearkat Invitational Tuesday morning with a 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. SFA is paired with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UT Rio Grande Valley and Bowling Green State University. Lautensack will get things started for the Ladyjacks from hole five, while Batista will start on hole six, Szewczyk on hole seven, Yang hole eight and Jorgensen hole nine. Cortes will tee off from hole 18 with golfers from Texas Southern and Tyler Junior College.
