The Ladyjacks’ senior bowler Stephanie Schwartz won gold in both singles and doubles in Mexico at the 2017 Pan American Bowling Confederation Youth Championships
MONTERREY, Mexico – The Stephen F. Austin women's bowling team has yet to compete in the 2017-18 school year but that has not stopped senior Stephanie Schwartz from making a splash. The three-time National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) All-American First Team selection is one of four bowlers from the United States representing their home country at the 2017 Pan American Bowling Confederation Youth Championships (PABCON), held at the Bol Obispado in Monterrey, Mexico, Sept. 2-9.
Schwartz has already completed singles and doubles play in the Under 21 youth championships, sweeping top honors in both categories. The Racine, Wis. (Washington Park H.S.), native bowled a tournament-best 241 in the opening game of the six-game singles championship. She followed that up with a 237 in game No. 4 for the second-highest score of any game in the field. Averaging a 214.67 score for the six games, Schwartz claimed 1,288 total pins, which was 12 pins more than her closest competitor.
In doubles action, Schwartz teamed up with McKendree University's Breanna Clemmer to capture her second gold medal of the week. The duo outpaced their competitors by a six-game average of 221.92, well over 20 pins higher than the second-place finishing doubles team. Their average score was thanks in large part to Schwartz' game six where she bowled an impressive 289, the highest score of any doubles or singles game in the entire championship. Schwartz posted a score of 1,315 through the six games, while Clemmer added the other 1,348 for the winning pair.
Schwartz and McKendree's Clemmer are joined by fellow collegiate bowlers, Julia Bond from the University of Nebraska and Wichita State's Sydney Brummett to form Junior Team USA.
Schwartz will compete in the women's trios event before Junior Team USA takes on Puerto Rico, Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia and Canada in team competition.
The Ladyjacks will begin tournament play this fall, stay tuned to SFAJacks.com for up to date information on all things related to SFA bowling.
