Women’s Golf Completes Day One of Play at Mark Allen ORU Shootout

After two rounds of play in their second tournament of the fall season, the Ladyjacks sit tied for 15th with a 51-over 627

TULSA, Okla. – Improving its score by seven strokes after the opening round, the Stephen F. Austin women's golf team finished day one of play at the Mark Allen ORU Shootout with a two-round mark of 51-over 627. The 36-hole score is tied for 15th on the team leaderboard with Missouri State as the Ladyjacks shot a 29-over 317 in round one, before tallying a 22-over 310 in round two.

The par-72 course at the Meadowbrook Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma, proved to be challenging for every team on day one of play with the lowest round of golf a 6-over 294 shot by Lamar in the second round. Tournament host Oral Roberts University leads after the first two rounds with a 24-over 600, followed by Lamar with a 27-over 603 and UTEP (28-over 604).

Sitting in 14th place on the leaderboard, redshirt junior Jamee Jorgensen (Boerne, Texas) paces SFA after shooting a 6-over 150 for the day. Jorgensen posted a 4-over 76 in the opening round and improved her game by two strokes in round two with a 2-over 74. Tied for 55th, redshirt junior Erica Lautensack (Arlington, Texas) shot an 8-over 80 in the morning's first round before tallying a 6-over 78 this afternoon for a two-round total of 14-over 158.

Sophomore Haleigh Jordan (San Antonio, Texas) is tied for 62nd with a day one score of 15-over 159, while sophomore Alexandra Batista (Trophy Club, Texas) sits tied for 73rd with a two-round total of 17-over 161. One stroke off of Batista is sophomore Paola Cortes (Allen, Texas), who owns a 18-over 162 and is tied for 75th.

Competing as an individual, true freshman Alexis Szewczyk (McKinney, Texas) registered a 25-over 169 Monday to stand in 88th place.

Missouri State's Verena Gimmy is in sole possession of first place by five strokes after shooting back-to-back 2-under 70's to begin the tournament. Louisiana-Monroe's Shani White sits in second place with a two-round score of 1-over 145, while five players from five different schools are currently tied for third.

The Ladyjacks will conclude play at the ORU Shootout tomorrow morning as the third and final round of the tournament will get underway at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
