
Women’s Golf in Sixth Place after Day One of Lady Maxwell Invitational

Paced by sophomore Alexandra Batista, the Ladyjacks wrapped up day one of the Lady Maxwell Invitational Friday to start their fall campaign
ARDMORE, Okla. – The fall portion of the Stephen F. Austin women's golf team's 2017-18 schedule began Friday afternoon as the Ladyjacks shot a 328 on the first day of the Lady Maxwell Invitational in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Sophomore Alexandra Batista (Trophy Club, Texas) paced SFA in the opening round as she shot a 5-over 76 at the Dornick Hills Country Club. She currently sits tied for 12th place in the 39-player event.
Redshirt junior Erica Lautensack (Arlington, Texas) posted a day one score of 81 and is tied for 23rd, while sophomore Paola Cortes (Allen, Texas) shot a 12-over 83 and is tied for 29th. Both sophomore Haleigh Jordan (San Antonio, Texas) and true freshman Alexis Szewczyk (McKinney, Texas) finished the first day of the tournament with identical scores of 88 to round out the scoring five.
In her first tournament back from an injury that kept her off the golf course in 2016-17, redshirt junior Jamee Jorgensen (Boerne, Texas) shot an 80 as an individual competitor to tie for 18th on the leader board. Also competing individually, freshman Kelly Yang (Sugar Land, Texas) completed the first round with an 11-over 82 to sit tied for 26th. Senior Zoey Daneshfar (Trophy Club, Texas) posted a day one score of 95 to complete SFA's individual entrants in the tournament.
Ranked No. 23 in the nation, Texas A&M leads after the first day with a score of 6-over 290. Southland Conference rival Sam Houston State is in second place after shooting 16-over 300 as a team in the first round, followed by tournament host Oral Roberts University (312) in third place. Wichita State (314) and fellow Southland member Incarnate Word (314) sit tied for fourth, while SFA looks to climb out of sixth place with the second round tomorrow.
The Bearkats' Hannah Alberto holds the lead after day one with a 2-under 69. The Aggies own both the second and third spots on the leader board as both Maddie Szeryk and Ariana Saenz shot an even-par 71 in the first round.
Saturday's second round will begin at 11 a.m. as tee times are reflective of players' day one finishes. The 'Jacks' Batista will tee off at 11:50 a.m., followed by Lautensack at 12 p.m., Cortes (12:10 p.m.), Jordan (12:20 p.m.) and Szewczyk (12:30 p.m.), while individual competitors will get started at 11 a.m.
The Lady Maxwell will wrap up Sunday with the third and final round, tee times will start at 7 a.m. and are dependent on teams' day one and day two scores.
