109 SFA Student-Athletes Named to Spring 2017 SLC Commissioner's Honor Roll

The 2016-17 year marks one of SFA's most successful academic seasons in recent history.

FRISCO, Texas – Another successful academic year for Stephen F. Austin was capped Tuesday as 109 Lumberjack and Ladyjack student-athletes were named to the Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the spring 2017 semester.
The Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll acknowledges participants in all sports sponsored by the league and its member institutions. The honor roll recognizes student-athletes who maintained a minimum 3.00 GPA during their competition season. Student-athletes, nominated by their respective academic advisors, must have been eligible to compete in their conference sport during the academic year in which the nomination occurs.
All nine Southland Conference sanctioned sports made an appearance on the list, led by 39 selections from women's track and field, 19 from men's track and field and 14 from baseball. Tennis had the highest percentage of its student-athletes recognized by the conference at 87.5% of the roster, followed by women's golf at 77.8% and women's basketball at 72.7%.
In addition to the 109 honorees, 20 SFA student-athletes earned special distinction by posting a perfect 4.00 GPA during their competition season. That list includes baseball's Jarred Greene, Clark Kahawaii and Will Vest, women's basketball's Imani Johnson, men's golf's Baxter Ward, women's golf's Alexandra Batista, softball's Brittany Lewis, tennis' Liza Aginskaya, Denise Maxl and Sian Payne, men's track and field's Topper Markham and women's track and field's Claire Crone, Macy Davis, Courtney High, Tara Ramsey, Anna Scheuring, Heidi Schultz, Katherine Simms, Kami Stockett and Taryn Surratt.
Combined with the 89 student-athletes that earned Commissioner's Honor Roll honors following the fall semester, SFA had one of its most successful academic seasons in recent history with 198 student-athletes earning the distinction. That list does not include bowling, a sport that doesn't fall under the SLC's umbrella, but would include Kelsi Anderson, Paige Beeney, Megan Eaglehouse, Dakotah Hazlewood, Paige Kraushaar, Stephanie Schwartz and Amber Whitcomb, comprising 77.8% of the team's roster.
