NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin senior Baxter Ward has been named a CoSIDA men's at-large Academic All-District VII selection, announced today by the organization. Ward, a native of Armidale, Australia, is majoring in business administration.
The at-large team is one of the most difficult teams to achieve a spot on as it encompasses the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. Ward joins Texas' P.J. Dunne (swimming) and Texas Tech's Bjorn Thomson (tennis) as the only players from the Lone Star state named to the District VII list and was joined by Southeastern Louisiana's Paul Obermann (District VI) as the other Southland Conference golfer to earn all-district honors.
Ward competed in eight events for the Lumberjacks in 2016-17, posting a 75.00 scoring average over 23 rounds. Ward finishd the year with seven rounds of par-or-better, tied for third on the team, while tying for 20th at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate and helping SFA to a runner-up finish at the Little Rock First Tee Classic.
The senior from Armidale closes out his Lumberjack career with a 75.14 scoring average in 99 rounds, ranking 12th all-time in career scoring average. Ward also closes out his career ranking ninth all-time in career par-or-better rounds (20) while his 99 rounds played is tied for 14th all-time. He ends his career with five top-10 individual finishes, including capturing the 2014 Arkansas State Fall Beach Classic individual title.
Nominated by and voted on by sports information directors across the country, Ward now advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot where first, second and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
