• Colin Montgomerie Rounds One and Two Results
Playing in its first tournament on Texas soil, SFA found itself in third after the opening 18 holes following the 3-over 291 over the morning round. The charge over the first 18 was led by senior Baxter Ward’s 2-under 70, including a 2-under 34 over the front nine. Ward finished one two shots better than sophomore Angelo Leyvani’s even-par 72 and was four shots ahead of senior Major Monzingo (2-over 74).
SFA matched its opening round 291 in Monday’s afternoon round, but this time it was Monzingo that lead the charge. The senior registered a 5-under 67, matching his career-low round, registering a 4-under 32 over the front nine. Senior Cory Brown also became more familiar with the course in round two, shooting a 1-over 73 with Leyvani adding a 2-over 74.
Through the first 36 holes, Monzingo remains in the hunt for the individual title, sitting tied for third overall with a 3-under 141. He is joined in the top-20 by Leyvani as the sophomore is tied for 20th with a 2-over 146 through 18 holes. Ward is one shot back at 3-over 147, tied for 25th, with Brown (4-over 148) and freshman Zach Sudinsky (13-over 157) rounding out the Lumberjack scorecard.
But the story of the day for the Lumberjacks was the play of junior Blake Stock, who was competing as an individual. Stock opened the day with a 3-under 69 over the opening 18 holes, then nearly matched that performance with a 2-under 70 in the afternoon round, giving him a 5-under 139. Stock sits second among the individual leaderboard, entering Tuesday’s final round two shots back of Houston Baptist’s Carlos Trevino (7-under 137) for the individual title.
With 18 holes remaining, SFA sits just four shots back of Louisiana-Monroe (2-over 578), seeking its first tournament title of the season. Bradley (7-over 583) is one shot back of the Lumberjacks in third with Houston Baptist (8-over 584), Central Arkansas (9-over 585) and Nicholls (10-over 586) all sitting just behind SFA in the team standings.
