NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The second member of Stephen F. Austin men's basketball's highly-touted 2018-19 signing class was announced Monday afternoon by head coach Kyle Keller as four-star forward Mitchell Seraille put pen to paper on his National Letter of Intent to join the 'Jacks.
Seraille, currently a senior at Jack Yates High School in Houston, Texas, is teammates with fellow 2018-19 SFA signee Jock Hughes who signed with the Lumberjacks last week.
"Recruiting is the lifeblood of every program," began Keller, SFA's second-year head coach. "At the end of 2017-18 we will lose three terrific seniors who have each done great things for Stephen F. Austin and its men's basketball program but we are all very excited to add two players today who we feel will help carry on the tradition of excellence that this program has become known for.
"We have focused on keeping the best prospects from our home state in the state. Our staff continues to sell the positives of the SFA brand and what a degree from this university will do to enhance the lives of these young men."
Mitchell Seraille | 6-7 | F | Houston, Texas | Jack Yates HS
Perhaps the highest rated recruit to ever ink an NLI to play for Stephen F. Austin, Seraille is currently ranked as the 31st best power forward in the entire 2018 recruiting class according to the ESPN recruiting database. The four-star power forward earned District 24-4A Most Valuable Player honors during his junior season at Jack Yates High School in 2016-17 before going on to claim a spot on the TABC All-State 4A squad. Also a TABC All-Region 4A-III honoree, Seraille led the Lions to a 23-8 mark in 2016-17 and a spot in the regional finals. Seraille also played on other teams across the AAU and UAA levels including a Houston Hoops squad that advanced to the quarterfinal round of the 2017 Nike Peach Jam EYBL event. Considered the premier prep basketball tournament in the nation, the Peach Jam tournament regularly features America's top recruits and in the first game of his senior year at Jack Yates High School, Seraille posted 22 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots to help lead his squad to and 83-71 victory over Kinkaid HS.
What they're saying about Seraille
SFA Head Coach Kyle Keller | "Mitch is a warrior that competes at a high level, challenges every shot on defense and rebounds very well. He is a fantastic high-flyer who, when combined with the current players on our roster, will have a chance to impact our program in a variety of ways on offense and as a shot blocker on defense. I have no doubt he will be a great asset to the other young men on our team."
Tim Schumacher • Houston Hoops AAU Head Coach | Mitch is a tremendous athlete that can affect the game in multiple ways. His athleticism is off the charts and as a result of that he is a terrific rebounder and shot blocker. His perimeter skills continue to improve and he will be a special player at SFA. He had multiple offers from schools in the Atlantic 10 and Conference USA. His comfort level with the coaches and players at SFA led to his final decision.
Greg Wise • Jack Yates High School Head Coach | "Mitch's upside is as big as it gets. He's a young man who will be as great a player as he wants to be. He has tremendous athleticism, plays the game hard and has a desire for greatness."
