MOBILE, Ala. – Stephen F. Austin shaved four strokes off its opening round score Sunday, posting a 19-over 307 in round two of the South Alabama Intercollegiate. The Ladyjacks sit ninth among the 10-team field with a 36-hole total of 42-over 618.
Senior Jessie White maintains the SFA lead after day two of the season-opening event, tied for 16th among the individual competitors with a 5-over 149. White shot a 6-over 78 on the day, seven shots more than she posted on day one, to slip in the individual standings. She holds a five shot advantage on sophomore Erica Lautensack who carded a 4-over 76 in round two and is tied for 34th with a 10-over 154.
The low round of the day for SFA belonged to senior Ann Holcomb, finishing with a 3-over 75 in round two and shaving seven strokes off her opening round 82. Holcomb is tied for 42nd overall with a 13-over 157, two shots better than freshman Haleigh Jordan’s 15-over 159. Fellow freshman Alexandra Batista rounded out the SFA scorecard with an 18-over 162.
Entering the day tied for ninth, the Ladyjacks posted the 307 to provide some distance from Southland Conference opponent McNeese, leading the Cowgirls (56-over 632) by 14 shots heading into Monday’s final round. SFA is two strokes behind eighth-place Alabama State (40-over 616) as the Ladyjacks will look to move up in the team standings over the final 18 holes.
Southern Mississippi took over the team lead on day two, shooting a 1-over 289 on the day and sitting at 8-over 584 for the event, leading second place Eastern Kentucky (13-over 589) by five strokes. Georgia State (14-over 590) is in third with Alabama-Birmingham (15-over 591) and host South Alabama (24-over 600) rounding out the top-five.
The final round of the South Alabama Intercollegiate will get underway at 8 a.m. Monday morning with the Ladyjacks playing with McNeese in the final round pairing. Batista will tee off at 8 a.m. to lead off for SFA, followed in 10 minute increments until White’s 8:50 a.m. tee time off hole 10.
