Ward, Weant Named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. – Stephen F. Austin golfers Baxter Ward and Nathan Weant have been named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America, announced today by the organization.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 and maintain a career cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. In addition, the recipient must be of high moral character and in good standing with the university.
Junior Baxter Ward competed in eight tournaments for the ‘Jacks in 2015-16, posting a 75.65 scoring average with a pair of par or better rounds. Ward, who earned his degree in business this past May, has competed in 76 rounds in his three seasons at SFA, registering a career scoring average of 75.18 with eight top-20 showings, including five top-10 finishes.
Weant closed out his collegiate career this past year, ranking second on the team with a 74.67 scoring average while finishing tied for ninth at the Bob Sitton Invitational. In his two years at SFA, Weant competed in 57 rounds for the Lumberjacks with a 74.81 career scoring average and five top-20 finishes, registering 13 rounds under part after transferring from Texas Tech.
The academic honors for the men add to an impressive showing by the SFA golf program in 2015-16 as Ann Holcomb, Mackenzie Steiner and Jessie White were all named to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-America Scholars.
