NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Senior pitcher Hannah Welch kept Louisiana Tech off balance all afternoon to lead the Stephen F. Austin softball team to a 3-1 victory on Tuesday at SFA Softball Field. The Ladyjacks, now winners of three of their last four, improve to 22-24 on the season with the win.
Welch (W, 2-5) was in complete control in SFA’s final non-conference game of the season, scattering five hits in 7.0 innings. She gave up just one run in the fifth surrounded by three 1-2-3 frames.
Taylor LeFlore hit safely in two of three at-bats while four other Ladyjacks recorded hits on the day.
The Ladyjacks jumped on the Lady Techsters early, loading the bases with just one out into the first inning. Autumn Holloway walked and Brittany Lewis and LeFlore each singled to create the traffic jam before Annie Mehringer notched an RBI groundout, giving the ‘Jacks a 1-0 lead.
Faith Talley sparked another run-scoring inning for the ‘Jacks with a double to start the fourth. Lindsay Campbell followed with a walk and Courtney Chambers used a sacrifice bunt to get runners to second and third. Alisa Hamilton initiated the scoring with an RBI on a fielder’s choice. Campbell scored on a LA Tech error on the play to give SFA a 3-0 cushion.
The Lady Techsters got one run on three hits in the fifth, but that’s the only tally Welch would allow.
SFA will next travel to Natchitoches, Louisiana for a three-game series against Northwestern State on Friday and Saturday.
