TROPHY CLUB, Texas – Stephen F. Austin closed out the ORU/SFA Spring Break Invitational 17th among the 20 team field at Trophy Club Country Club. The Ladyjacks shot a 32-over 912 over the final 18 holes, bringing their two-day total to 92-over 932.
Seniors Sydney Reed and Mackenzie Steiner tied for the team lead as the duo tied for 38th overall with a 19-over 229. Reed had the low round of the day for SFA, shooting a 5-over 75, with Steiner adding a 6-over 76 to settle into the tie.
Junior Ann Holcomb finished third among the Ladyjacks with a 26-over 236, carding a 12-over 82 over the final 18 holes. Junior Jessie White shot a 9-over 79 to finish at 28-over 238 while sophomore Jamee Jorgensen closed out the event at 36-over 246, including a 12-over 82 Tuesday. Junior Courtney Ford placed eighth in the individual tournament, shooting a 37-over 251 on the neighboring par-72 course.
After beginning the day tied for 14th, SFA slipped three spots to settle into 17th among the 20-team field. The Ladyjacks finished 12 shots better than Illinois State (104-over 944) and was three strokes back of 16th-place Indiana State (89-over 929). The Ladyjacks closed out the event nine shots back of both Creighton and Fairleigh Dickinson (83-over 923), tying for 14th.
Southland Conference foe Houston Baptist captured the team title, shooting a 51-over 891 and edging out Arkansas-Little Rock (52-over 892) by one stroke for the championship. Co-host Oral Roberts (53-over 893) finished third with Georgetown (54-over 894) and Southern Illinois (57-over 897) rounding out the top-five. HBU’s Giorgia Carletti won the individual title, winning a one-hole playoff over UALR’s Shanita Berger.
Up next for the Ladyjacks is the final tournament before the conference tilt as SFA heads to Spring Break Invitational champion Houston Baptist for the 2016 HBU Husky Invitational. The 54-hole tournament will be held March 28-29 in Sugar Land.
