Ladyjacks Qualify for Fifth-Straight USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Stephen F. Austin wrapped up two days of competition at the United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Sectional Tournament in Las Vegas. The Ladyjacks placed fourth among the eight-team regional field, qualifying for the 2016 Intercollegiate Team Championships being held April 21-23 in Wichita, Kansas.
Playing a 64-game schedule, SFA finished the two-day event with 12,001 total pins, averaging 187.52 for the weekend. The Ladyjacks used a seven-player rotation through the final round, finishing behind Newman (12,639), Pikeville (12,293) and Maryland-Eastern Shore (12,202).
It was one of four regionals being held throughout the weekend with the top four finishes at each regional qualifying for the national tournament. With the bid, SFA has now qualified for the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships for the fifth-straight season.
Prior to the start of the team competition, a handful of Ladyjacks competed in the Sectional Singles qualifying tournament, led by sophomore Stephanie Schwartz tying for third with 1,236 total pins (206.00 avg.) and qualifying for the singles tournament in Wichita. Fellow sophomore Kelsi Anderson finished 18th with 1,153 pins (192.17 avg.) with freshman Dakotah Hazlewood finishing 26th with 1,135 pins (189.17 avg.).
With the latest hurdle under its belt, SFA now turns its sights back on NCAA competition, preparing for the final tournament of the regular season. The Ladyjacks will head to Smyrna, Tennessee, this weekend for the 2016 Vanderbilt Music City Classic March 18-20. It will be the final tune-up before the Southland Bowling League Championships, being held March 26-27 in Kenner, Louisiana.
