KENOSHA, Wis. – Stephen F. Austin closed out its weekend in Wisconsin with a third-place showing at the Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Classic. SFA posted a 2-1 record on the day, improving to 8-5 for the event, posting its second third-place finish of the season.
With the results over the three days in Kenosha, the Ladyjacks improve to 68-35 overall on the season, a .661 winning percentage, while extending their streak of consecutive top-10 team finishes to 29-straight tournaments.
Entering the day as the number three overall seed, the Ladyjacks drew a familiar opponent in McKendree in round one. After knocking off the Bearcats twice on Saturday, SFA fell victim to the old adage of the difficulty of beating a team three-straight times, falling in six games. McKendree took the opening three before the Ladyjacks responded to win the fourth (211-193) and fifth (226-208). But SFA’s comeback came up short, dropping the sixth 232-184.
Pushed down in the bracket, the Ladyjacks responded in a major way with a 4-0 sweep of Adelphi. SFA bowled in the 200s in three of the four matches, including a 225 in game two, before closing out the Panthers 169-159 in game four.
The final match of the day once again paired SFA against McKendree, marking the second-straight round the Ladyjacks and Bearcats bookended their day against each other. SFA had a better start against McKendree in the final round as the two teams split the first four games of the match. But this time, the Ladyjacks were able to close out the win, taking games five (177-171) and six (197-180) to secure the third-place showing.
After playing five tournaments in four states over the past six weeks, SFA will have a little bit of time off before returning to action. Up next for the Ladyjacks is the USBC Sectionals, being held March 12-13, as SFA looks to qualify for the national tournament April 21-23 in Wichita, Kansas.
