ESTERO, Fla. - Stephen F. Austin closed out the final round of the FGCU Eagle Invitational on a high note, registering a tournament-best round of 19-over 307 to finish 10th among the competitive 15-team field. The Ladyjacks posted a 72-over 936 through the 54-hole event, posting their fourth top-10 team finish of the 2015-16 season.
Senior Sydney Reed registered her third top-20 showing of the season and the eighth of her career, tying for 20th individually with a 13-over 229, including a final round 4-over 76. She finished four shots better than junior teammates Jessie White and Courtney Ford, both of which carded a 17-over 233 to tie for 30th. Ford had the low round of the tournament for SFA in round three, firing a 2-over 74 and tying her career low round.
Senior Mackenzie Steiner and junior Ann Holcomb rounded out the Ladyjack scorecard as the duo tied for 59th with a 27-over 243. Even heading into round three, the duo each shot an 8-over 80 to help keep SFA in the top-10.
SFA extended its lead over Southland Conference opponent McNeese State, defeating the 11th-place Cowgirls (81-945) by nine shots, while finishing 13 shots better than 12th-place Florida Atlantic (85-over 949). The Ladyjacks were six shots back of ninth-place Ball State (66-over 930) and 12 back of both Southern Illinois and Arkansas State (60-over 924), who tied for seventh.
Mercer held its lead and captured the team title with a 30-over 894, defeating second-place Toledo (39-over 903) by nine strokes. Elon (50-over 914) finished third with Xavier (52-over 916), host Florida Gulf Coast (54-over 918) and SLC foe Central Arkansas (56-over 920) rounding out the top six.
SFA will return home from the east coast and will have a few days of practice before heading to the west coast next week, competing in the 2016 Battle at the Rock in Riverside, California. Hosted by UC-Riverside, the event will be held at Oak Quarry Golf Club in Riverside February 22nd through the 23rd.
