2016 Ladyjack Tennis Schedule
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The defending Southland Conference champion Stephen F. Austin women’s tennis team, led by first-year head coach Jon McLaughlin, has unveiled its full 2016 schedule.
“We are excited to continue to build on what members of this team accomplished last season,” said McLaughlin. “This schedule was built to challenge our players with a variety of high-level non-conference opponents so we can enter the conference portion of our schedule ready to compete at a high level.”
Last season the, Ladyjacks amassed a record of 16-7 which included a 10-1 mark in Southland Conference play. SFA clinched a share of the regular season conference title and earned the number-two seed in the 2015 Southland Conference Tournament.
2016 will commence with a 10-match non-conference schedule and all but three of those matches will take place at the Schleif Tennis Complex. SFA will begin its 2016 campaign at home when Prairie View A&M opposes the Ladyjacks at 1 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 22.
That matchup with the Panthers is the first of five-straight home matches to begin the season as UTSA (Sun., Jan. 24), Dallas Baptist (Fri., Jan. 29), Midwestern State (Sat., Jan. 30) and Tyler Junior College (Sat., Jan 30) will each travel to Nacogdoches before the month of January concludes.
SFA’s first road trip is set for Sat., Feb. 6, when the Ladyjacks travel to Norman, Okla., to tangle with Oklahoma. The trip to Oklahoma signals the beginning of a five-match alternating home and away stretch that comes before Southland Conference play starts. Arkansas State (Fri., Feb. 12) and Louisiana Tech (Wed., Feb. 17) are the last two non-conference foes SFA will face at home and trips to Louisiana-Monroe (Sat., Feb. 13) and Texas A&M (Sat., Feb. 20) round out the stretch.
The only other non-conference skirmish on the Ladyjacks’ 2016 docket will take place in New Orleans on Fri., April 8 when they travel to Tulane to take on the Green Wave.
League play will begin on the road as SFA makes for Conway on Sat., Feb. 27 to battle Central Arkansas. Other SLC road bouts for the Ladyjacks include trips to Abilene Christian (Sat., March 12), Northwestern State (Sun., March 20), McNeese State (Sat., April 2) and Nicholls State (Sun., April 3).
Six of SFA’s 11 Southland Conference matches will take place at home with Incarnate Word (Sun., March 6), Southeastern Louisiana (Fri., March 25), New Orleans (Sat., March 26), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Tues., March 29), Sam Houston State (Sat., April 9) and Lamar (Sun., April 10) each traveling to Nacogdoches.
Following the conclusion of their regular season schedule, the Ladyjacks will host the 2016 Southland Conference Tournament at the Schleif Tennis Complex on Friday-Sunday, April 22-24.
