ARLINGTON, Texas – Building off a successful opening round, Stephen F. Austin continued its solid play, posting a 3-1 record on day two of the Prairie View A&M Invitational. The Ladyjacks vaulted to the top of the team leaderboard with a 210.3 scoring average, nearly two pins better than second-place Arkansas State, and sit at 8-1 in the event.
With one team game left to bowl on Sunday morning, SFA had a number of impressive individual performances as sophomores Morgan Reising and Stephanie Schwartz and senior Danielle Lynn all sit among the individual top-10. Reising currently sits sixth with a 215.4 average, just ahead of Schwartz’s 213.6 average in seventh. Lynn currently ranks ninth with a 212.8 mark.
Competing in five traditional team matches, the Ladyjacks opened up Saturday facing 11th-ranked Maryland-Eastern Shore and outlasted the Hawks 1,113-1,024. Lynn led the way with a season-best 257, complemented by a 237 from Schwartz and a 233 from Reising. SFA then bowled a 1,057 in an open match as Reising (244), Lynn (234) and freshman Dakotah Hazlewood (204) posted the high scores.
SFA returned to competition facing Tulane and the Ladyjacks and Green Wave matched each other pin-for-pin, ending the five-game match deadlocked at 945. The two teams then competed in a five-frame bowl-off, which was won by SFA 129-120 to give the Ladyjacks the match. Junior Paige Kraushaar was the top performer for SFA against Tulane with a 206, followed closely by a 204 from Reising.
Round four featured another installment of the Battle of the Piney Woods as the Ladyjacks and fourth-ranked Sam Houston State renewed their rivalry. This time, it was SFA that prevailed, edging out the Bearkats 1,136-1,102 behind a season-high 268 from Schwartz, one off her career-best. Three other Ladyjacks surpassed the 200-pin mark, including a 246 from Kraushaar, a 225 from Lynn and a 220 from Reising.
Riding an eight-match winning streak, SFA’s string of victories was snapped by third-ranked Vanderbilt 977-939 in the final match of the day. Kraushaar’s 209 was the only score to surpass 200 for the Ladyjacks as Lynn (187), Hazlewood (185) and Schwartz (182) were all consistents for SFA.
With 10 matches played, SFA now holds the team lead with a 210.3 average, nearly two pins better than Arkansas State’s 208.5. Vanderbilt (205.9), Nebraska (205.4) and Maryland-Eastern Shore (204.3) round out the top-five with Sam Houston State (201.7) also averaging over 200.
Sunday’s action gets underway at 8:25 a.m. as the teams will compete in a final traditional team match. SFA is hoping to maintain its position and then get top billing for the best-of-seven baker style bracket format that begins immediately after.
