NACOGDOCHES, Texas – While classes may be out, members of Stephen F. Austin’s bowling have kept busy, competing in a number of national tournaments across both the country and the continent.
Early in June, Stephanie Schwartz was selected as one of four bowlers selected to represent the United States in the 2015 Pan American Bowling Confederation Youth Championships this week in Panama. Schwartz won a bronze medal in the girls doubles competition as she and teammate Breanna Clemmer bowled a 2,410 to take the bronze.
Schwartz and teammate Paige Kraushaar have both been competing on the Elite Youth Tour (YET) as well as each have logged a tournament title. Kraushaar won in Indianapolis, Indiana, on May 30, followed by Schwartz edging out her junior teammate 432 to 425 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on June 6.
Incoming SFA freshman Paige Beeney is also making a name for herself this summer, competing in the 2015 PBA Teen Masters in Las Vegas, Nevada. Beeney currently sits in the lead among the 76-player field, posting a 211.0 scoring average with 3,798 total pins recorded as the tournament wraps up Friday afternoon.
SFA is coming off its most memorable year in program history as the Ladyjacks finished the year ranked second in the NTCA final rankings, thanks to its runner-up showing at the 2015 NCAA Championships. Three Ladyjacks earned All-America honors with Schwartz being named a first team honoree and national Freshman of the Year with Amber Lemke capturing NTCA Coach of the Year honors.
