SFA Lands 106 on Commissioner's Honor Roll

FRISCO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin landed 106 student-athletes on the 2015 Southland Conference Commissioner’s 2015 Spring Academic Honor Roll, announced today by the league office.
The Southland Conference Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll acknowledges participants in all sports sponsored by the league and its member institutions. The honor roll is released within 30 days at the conclusion of the fall and spring semesters, recognizing student-athletes who maintained a minimum 3.00 GPA. Student-athletes, nominated by their respective academic advisors, must have been eligible to compete in a conference sport during the academic year in which the nomination occurs.
All nine SFA programs that competed during the spring semester were represented as the ‘Jacks were one of three Southland institutions to land over 100 student-athletes on the list, including 15 that boasted a perfect 4.00 GPA. Men’s track and field led the way with 24 selections as Ervin Mooney and Daven Murphree boasted a perfect 4.00 GPA.
Women’s track and field had 21 selections as Macy Davis notched a 4.00 on the semester. NCAA national champion Demi Payne and Capital One Academic All-District selection Courtney High were also included among the honorees as well as SLC champions Cierra Jefferson, Brarysheyia Simpson and Shambrail Woods.
Baseball and softball both landed 15 student-athletes on the honor roll as Will Boozer, Trevor Inman, Dan O’Neill, Zack Vasek and Hannah Welch all recorded 4.00s for the spring semester. O’Neill and Welch were both Capital One Academic All-District selections, as was Brittany Lewis who also made the list.
The SFA golf programs put 13 student-athletes on the honor roll, comprised of eight from the men’s team and five from the women’s. SLC Champion and Student-Athlete of the Year Jessie White highlighted the women’s selections as Baxter Ward and Mackenzie Steiner were both 4.00 students this past semester.
Both the SFA men’s and women’s basketball programs landed seven student-athletes on the honor roll as the Ladyjacks’ LaNesha Middleton and Victoria Pena both recorded a 4.00 GPA as All-SLC selection Tierany Henderson was among the honorees. On the men’s side, SLC Player of the Year Thomas Walkup was also recognized.
Tennis rounded out the SFA honorees with four selections, highlighted by 4.00 performances from Vivienne Kulicke, Denise Maxl and Valeria Terentyeva.
Combined with the 73 selections in the fall honor roll, SFA landed 179 student-athletes on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the 2014-15 season. It adds to what was an incredible year for SFA both on and off the playing fields as the ‘Jacks recorded 24 Academic All-SLC selections, 11 Capital One Academic-All-District honors, three SLC Student-Athletes of the Year and a pair of Capital One Academic All-Americans.
