NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin head coach Clint Conque has announced a pair of transfers to the Lumberjack football program for 2015. Safety Germod Williams and tight end Lucas Askew head to SFA after spending time at Texas State.
"We're pleased to add both Germod and Lucas to our roster for this upcoming season," Conque said. "Both bring maturity and skill to their respective positions. These young men will add to our competitive environment and we look forward to both making a significant impact in 2015."
Williams played in 17 games in two seasons with the Bobcats, tallying 44 tackles and five interceptions in the Texas State defensive backfield. He saw his most significant production in 2014, playing in nine games with 36 tackles and tying for the team lead with four picks on the year.
A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, Williams was a three-star recruit by Rivals at Oak Ridge High School in Conroe, Texas. An All-District 15-4A selection, Williams was a semifinalist for the Houston Touchdown Club Player of the Year finishing with 63 tackles, including 57 solo stops, and an interception as a senior.
Askew spent one season at Texas State, redshirting his freshman season to retain four years of eligibility. A native of Big Sandy, Texas, Askew was a two-star recruit by Rivals as he led Harmony High School with 32 catches for 378 yards and five touchdowns as a senior.
Askew closed out his prep career ranked as one of the top-10 tight end prospects in the state of Texas and was among the top prospects in East Texas. Askew was a second team Academic All-State selection as a senior and closed out his high school career with a 4.00 GPA.
The pair add some depth to some key positions for SFA as Williams is helping to restock a defensive secondary that lost some key seniors due to graduation in 2014. He is the third defensive back transfer to join the Lumberjacks this offseason, joining Zack Starnes and Tre Rosser.
Askew will join a talented but young tight end corps on the offensive side of the ball, bolstering the unit comprised by sophomores Jayson Clements and Will Taylor. He is the second offensive transfer added to the squad in the offseason, joining quarterback Jake Gnacinski.
SFA is entering its summer workout schedule, gearing up to the start of fall camp in August. The Lumberjacks, ranked 17th in the preseason Sporting News FCS poll, open up the 2015 season on Saturday, September 5th, hosting 22nd-ranked Northern Arizona in a battle of Lumberjacks at Homer Bryce Stadium.
Season tickets for the 2015 SFA football season are now on sale by contacting the SFA Ticket Office at (936) 468-JACK (5225).
