NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin tennis player Valeria Terentyeva and bowler Paige Kraushaar have both been named first team Capital One Academic All-District Women's At-Large selections, announced today by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The women's at-large team is one of the most challenging teams to make as athletes from nearly a dozen different sports go head-to-head to fill the 13-player roster. Division I schools in the states of Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming make up District VII as the Ladyjacks tied with Texas A&M for second with two all-district selections, one shy of Texas' three honorees.
Terentyeva capped a great junior season, being named a second team All-Southland Conference doubles selection as she and partner Vivienne Kulicke posted a 15-6 overall record, going 9-2 in SLC play. She also had a solid singles season as well, recording a 12-6 mark on the year and going 7-2 in SLC play, playing primarily the No. 4 and No. 5 position.
A native of St. Petersburg, Russia, Terentyeva helped guide SFA to a share of the 2015 SLC title, the second in program history and the first since 2012. She boats a perfect 4.00 GPA, majoring in physics.
Kraushaar was named a NTCA honorable mention All-American in 2014-15 after helping guide the Ladyjacks to a runner-up finish at the 2015 NCAA Championships in the program's first tournament appearance. She placed sixth in the individual standings at the NCAA tournament, posting a 213.4 scoring average as SFA earned the number one overall seed.
A native of Crown Point, Ind., Kraushaar was a solid force all season for the Ladyjacks, notching three All-Tournament honors on the season. She is a nursing major who boasts a perfect 4.00 GPA.
With the two selections to the women's all-district team, SFA landed the most of any Southland Conference school. Sam Houston State's Janine Kuwahara (bowling), Northwestern State's Natalya Krutova (tennis) and Southeastern Louisiana's Renee Villarreal (tennis) give the conference five first team selections.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain acumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
