FRISCO, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin golfers Blake Pugh and Luke Sheehan have been named All-Southland Conference third team selections, announced today by the league office. It is the third All-SLC honor for Pugh with Sheehan picking up his first all-conference recognition.
Pugh closed out his Lumberjack career with a career-low scoring average of 73.53 in 30 rounds for SFA, recording four top-10 finishes. He captured the second individual title of his career at the Jim West Intercollegiate, shooting a 9-under 207 which is tied for the third-best 54-hole score in program history.
Pugh finished the 2014-15 season with 12 rounds of par-or-better, led by his season-low 68 in round two of the Jim West Intercollegiate. The SLC Golfer of the Month for April, Pugh was the top SFA finisher in three events, including his second-place finish at the Texas A&M Reveille Challenge and sixth-place showing at the Bandon Dunes Championship.
Sheehan earned his first All-SLC honor after leading the Lumberjacks with a 73.43 scoring average over SFA's 30 events, taking three fewer strokes on the year than Pugh. Sheehan recorded three top-10 finishes on the year, including tying for the individual title at the ASU Fall Beach Classic with teammate Baxter Ward.
The top Lumberjack finisher at four events on the season, Sheehan closed out the 2014-15 season with nine par-or-better rounds, highlighted by his career-low 67 in the final round of the Fall Beach Classic, tied for the fourth lowest round in program history.
The two All-SLC selections brings SFA's all-time total to 41 since the Lumberjacks joined the conference in 1988. Pugh becomes the fourth SFA golfer to be a three-time All-SLC selection, joining Mitchell McLeroy (2011-13), Brian Grossman (2003-04, 06) and Matt Mockniak (1991-93).
