FRISCO, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin senior Blake Pugh has been named the Southland Conference Golfer of the Month, announced today by the league office. It is the first SLC monthly honor for Pugh and the second for SFA during the 2014-15 season.
Pugh had quite an impressive week for the Lumberjacks, recording a first and second-place showing while shooting a combined 13-under par. He captured the second individual title of his career at the Jim West Intercollegiate in Bastrop, firing a 9-under 207 and winning the tournament by two strokes. The 207 is a new career-low for Pugh and is tied for the second-lowest 54-hole score in Lumberjack program history, shooting a season-low 68 in round two.
Five days later, Pugh finished second at the Texas A&M Reveille Challenge in Bryan, carding a pair of two-under 70s in the one-day event. His 4-under 140 is the lowest 36-hole tournament performance of Pugh's career and the 11th top-10 finish of his Lumberjack career.
With the performance over the week, Pugh became SFA's season scoring leader, posting a career-low 73.04 scoring average over 27 rounds on the year. The senior from Carrollton has notched four top-10 and an additional two top-20 finishes in 2014-15, holding a career scoring average of 74.44.
Pugh becomes the second Lumberjack to be named the Southland Conference's Golfer of the Month this season, joining sophomore Baxter Ward, who took home the honor in November.
Pugh and the rest of the Lumberjacks are preparing for the 2015 Southland Conference Championships, being held next Monday through Wednesday, April 20-22, at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in McKinney. SFA will look to build on last year's success, finishing tied for third and posting its best SLC finish since 2003.
