HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Stephen F. Austin has four golfers sitting among the top-20 of the individual standings as the Ladyjacks are tied for third after the opening round of the Southern Miss Lady Eagle Invitational. SFA posted a 16-over 304 in round one, sitting tied with Houston Baptist in the team standings.
The Ladyjacks were led by sophomore Jessica White, who shot a 2-over 74 and is currently tied for fifth in the individual standings. She leads sophomore teammate Ann Holcomb (4-over 76) as Holcomb is tied for 14th overall after 18 holes.
Freshman Erica Lautensack and sophomore Piper Kyle both carded a 5-over 77 in round one and check in among a four-player tie for 20th overall, rounding out the Ladyjack top-20 golfers. Junior Sydney Reed rounds out the SFA scorecard with an 8-over 80.
Battling cloudy and windy conditions early and rainy conditions late, the Ladyjacks were able to complete the opening round tied with Southland Conference foe Houston Baptist. The duo sits 11 shots back of team leader Western Kentucky (5-over 288) and is just three shots behind second-place South Alabama (13-over 301). The Ladyjacks and Huskies maintain a four-stroke lead on fifth-place Memphis (20-over 308) and are six shots better than rival Sam Houston State (22-over 310).
After completing round one, the teams began to play the final 18 holes due to the impending thunderstorms that were rolling through the area in the afternoon. The teams were able to complete just under half the second round before play was suspended as they are hoping a morning break in the rain will be enough to finish the final round of play.
Should play resume Tuesday morning, SFA will be teamed up with Memphis and Sam Houston State in the final round pairings, getting underway at 8 a.m. Full results will be posted to SFAJacks.com as they become available.
