Nicholls 2, SFA 1
THIBODAUX, La. - For the second game in a row, the Stephen F. Austin softball team lost in walk-off fashion against Nicholls State, as the Colonels used a seventh inning RBI single to win 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Ladyjacks fall to 7-12 on the season and 1-2 in conference play with the loss.
In a defensive battle, SFA was held to just one hit on the afternoon off the bat of junior Lindsay Campbell. After Nicholls scored a run in the fourth, Campbell broke up a no-hit bid by Hannah Haydel to start the sixth inning. The outfielder advanced to second on a groundout, stole third base and then traveled the rest of the way home after a Colonel error on a ball hit by Shalie Day.
The Ladyjack's lone run tied the game at 1-1, where the score remained until the bottom of the seventh.
Nicholls (14-7, 2-1 SLC) used a single, a walk and an error to load the bases with one out in the seventh before Alexis Huss provided the walk-off single up the middle.
Callee Guffey tossed the complete game for the Ladyjacks while earning a quality start. She was charged with both earned runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out five batters. Guffey drops to 3-5 this year from within the circle.
Haydel (7-3) surrendered one hit in 7.0 innings, allowed one unearned run, walked one and struck out one for the Colonels.
The Ladyjacks return to the diamond next Friday and Saturday for a three-game series against Central Arkansas in Conway. First pitch for the Friday doubleheader is set for 4:00 p.m. with Saturday's contest slated to start at 1:00 p.m.
