LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Stephen F. Austin moved up two spots over the final 18 holes of the UALR First Tee Classic, finishing seventh overall with a 24-over 888. It is the sixth-straight top-10 showing for the Lumberjacks on the year.
Sitting tied for ninth entering the day. SFA posted a 10-over 298, moving up two spots to finish in sole possession of seventh at 24-over 888, one shot better than eighth-place Louisiana Tech (25-over 889). The Lumberjacks finished two shots back of Missouri State 922-over 886) and were three shots back of Southland Conference foe McNeese State (21-over 885) in fifth.
Freshman Tony Underwood was the top SFA finisher for the third-straight tournament, carding a 5-over 221 after posting a 4-over 75 in round three. Underwood tied for 24th overall and was one shot better than juniors Luke Sheehan and Nathan Weant (6-over 222), both of which tied for 29th overall.
Senior Blake Pugh shot a 2-over 74 and finished with a 10-over 226 with sophomore Baxter Ward finishing out the SFA scorecard with a 17-over 233. Senior Bradley Phelps posted the low round of the day for the Lumberjacks, shooting a 1-under 71, and finished with a 6-over 222 competing as an individual.
Tulsa captured the team championship with a 2-over 866, edging out second-place Memphis (3-over 867) by one stroke. Louisiana-Monroe (12-over 876) placed third with host Arkansas-Little Rock (13-over 877) and McNeese State rounding out the top-five.
There will be little rest for the weary for the Lumberjacks as they get ready to compete in their fourth tournament in as many weeks next week, traveling to Austin for the Jim West Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event gets underway with two rounds on Monday, April 6, leading into the final round Tuesday, April 7.
