DUNNELLON, Fla. - Sophomore Jessica White notched an even-par 72 over the final round of the 2015 MSU Ocala Spring Invitational, finishing tied for sixth among the individual standings. She helped pace Stephen F. Austin to a 10th-place finish, posting a 49-over 913.
SFA shaved one stroke off its second round score, carding a 19-over 307 over the final 18 holes of the event. The Ladyjacks finished nine shots better than 11th-place Akron (58-over 922), trailing ninth-place Stetson (45-over 909) by four shots and were five strokes back of eighth-place Morehead State (44-over 908).
White's even-par 72 led the way for SFA, finishing with a 6-over 222 and tying for sixth in the individual standings. It was the lowest 54-hole tournament showing in White's SFA career, besting her previous mark of 223 by one stroke, as she claimed the third top-10 finish as a Ladyjack.
Freshman Erica Lautensack recorded her eighth-straight top-20 showing, tying for 18th overall with a 9-over 225, including a 2-over 74 in round three. She now has three top-10 finishes and five additional top-20 postings in her first season as a Ladyjack.
Sophomore Ann Holcomb and junior Mackenzie Steiner tied for 44th individually with a 17-over 233. Junior Sydney Reed rounded out the Ladyjack scorecard with a 22-over 238.
The lone Southland Conference school to compete in the event, SFA recorded its eighth top-10 showing in nine events on the year. The 913 marked the third-lowest 54-hole tournament total in program history, four shots back of the program-record 907 set at the Incarnate Word Fall Invitational.
South Dakota State captured the team title, shooting a 35-over 899 and holding off runner-up Daytona State College (36-over 900) by one stroke. Murray State, Western Kentucky and South Alabama (38-over 902) all tied for third with North Florida (39-over 903) placing sixth.
SFA returns to action next week, traveling to Little Rock, Ark., for the UALR/SU Women's Invitational March 30-31. The 54-hole event gets underway with two rounds on Monday, March 30, leading up to the final round Tuesday, March 31.
