DUNNELLON, Fla. - Stephen F. Austin posted a 10-over par 298 through the first round of the 2015 Ocala Spring Invitational, hosted by Morehead State. The Ladyjacks sit tied for third overall, sitting five shots back of leader South Alabama (5-over 293).
The 10-over 298 is the fifth-lowest round in SFA program history, four shots back of the program-best 294 set on two separate occasions. The Ladyjacks have now cracked 300 three times in 2014-15, setting a new program record for sub-300 rounds in a season.
Sophomore Ann Holcomb paced the Ladyjacks through the opening 18 holes, shooting a 1-over 73 and is currently tied for ninth among the individual standings. The 73 is tied for Holcomb's career low round, marking the third time this season she has accomplished the feat.
The remaining Ladyjack competitors all had strong showings as the quartet all posted a 3-over 75 in round one. Freshman Erica Lautensack, sophomores Mackenzie Steiner and Jessica White and junior Sydney Reed are all tied for 19th overall, sitting among a 14-player logjam at 75.
SFA enters Monday's second round tied with Stetson as the duo is five shots back of South Alabama and just one stroke behind second-place South Dakota State (9-oer 297). Murray State is three shots behind at 13-over 301, rounding out the top five of the challenging 18-team field.
The second round of the 2015 MSU Ocala Spring Invitational is slated to begin at 12 p.m. CT Monday afternoon as the Ladyjacks will team up with South Alabama and South Dakota State in the second round pairings. Full results will be posted at SFAJacks.com as they become available.
