NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin head football coach Clint Conque announced the addition of 21 players to the 2015 Lumberjack football roster on National Signing Day. 20 of those additions were Texas high school seniors signing their National Letters of Intent to come to SFA with one more junior college transfer rounding out the group of additions.
“Like most coaches across the country, we’re quite pleased with the class we’re bringing in,” Conque said. “We certainly addressed what we feel will be both current and future needs on offense, defense and special teams and look forward to getting these young men on campus this summer and start working with them. We believe this group of young men will help us to continue our quest for a fifth Southland Conference championship and continue to compete at the national level.”
The primary focus of this recruiting class was to fill some immediate and future needs across the Lumberjack football program as each position outside of punter is represented in the 2015 signing class. :
• Quarterback (1): Jake Blumrick (Pearland)
• Running Backs (3): Loren Easly (Houston Westside), Marcalas Johnson (Arp), Jordan Martinez (Grandview)
• Wide Receivers (3): Reggie Daniels (Pflugerville Hendrickson), Kiki Hill (Goliad), Jonathan Sam (Pearland)
• Offensive Linemen (2): A.J. Brown (Arlington Martin), Travis Lock (Temple)
• Defensive Ends (1): Jack Martin (New Braunfels)
• Defensive Tackles (1): Paul Hill (Van Vleck)
• Linebackers (3): Teddy Britton (San Antonio Stevens), Spencer Choka (Bryan Rudder), Anthony Jacobs (Cypress Ridge)
• Cornerback (1): Rodney Veasey (Houston Eisenhower)
• Safeties (4): Lawrence Ghansah (Cypress Springs), Kyshaun Smith (Tatum), Trevon Smith (Houston Bellaire), Alize Ward (Prime Prep Academy)
• Kicker (1): Conner Crow (Bay Area Christian)
“I thought our coaching staff did their due diligence of really finding guys that fit our profile, making their presence known and really expanding the brand of SFA football,” Conque said. “Our assistants brought to the table outstanding young men and outstanding football players, some of which will have an opportunity to compete and help our football team in 2015. These young men are excited to be Lumberjacks and we’re excited that they and their families have entrusted our coaching staff to work with them over the next four to five years.”
In addition, Conque officially introduced seven transfers to the Lumberjack football program, six of which had already been announced as additions to the team. The seventh transfer to join the squad is wide receiver De’Quann Ruffin, who originally signed with SFA in 2012 but spent the past two seasons at Kilgore Junior College. While the previous six transfers are already on campus working out with the team, Ruffin will join the team this summer with the incoming recruiting class.
Conque, the reigning Southland Conference Coach of the Year, helped guide SFA to a five-win improvement in 2014 as the Lumberjacks finished tied for third in the SLC and received a bid to the NCAA FCS playoffs for the first time since 2010. SFA knocked off a pair of ranked opponents and was recognized for having the conference’s Player of the Year (Gus Johnson) and Newcomer of the Year (Zach Conque).
SFA’s 2015 schedule gets underway on Saturday, September 5th when the Lumberjacks host Tarleton State at Homer Bryce Stadium. The 2015 slate includes five home games as well as a trip to Fort Worth to battle national title contender TCU and the 90th installment of the Battle of the Piney Woods against rival Sam Houston State at NRG Stadium in Houston. Season tickets are now on sale, ranging from $63 for general admission to $93 for reserved seating. Both season ticket renewals and new season tickets can be ordered by calling the SFA Ticket Office at 936-468-JACK (5225).

Personal: Son of Roddy and Michelle Blumrick ... Collegiate major is undecided.
Conque's Thoughts: "We had Jake in camp this past summer. He's very smart, has a good arm and he's got a bright future here. He'll have a great opportunity to develop in our program."
Personal: Son of Teddy Britton and Cynthia Teal ... Collegiate major is undecided.
Conque's Thoughts: "We looked at a lot of linebackers and Teddy was at the top of our list. He's very instinctive, runs well, triggers to the ball. We see him as a weak side linebacker and we've been very impressed with his football I.Q."
Personal: Son of Alvin (Sr.) and Marlene Brown ... Father was a fast bowler for the West Indian Cricket Club ... Mother played basketball and volleyball at Manchester Community College (Connecticut) ... Plans to major in kinesiology.
Conque's Thoughts: "He's a roadgrader. A big, strong athlete that could play any number of positions on the offensive line. He's a very powerful young man that is very driven to be successful and could have a major impact right away."
Personal: Son of Joseph Choka and Candilyn McLean ... Plans to major in business.
Conque's Thoughts: "He is very long and rangy and has a nose for the football. He had well over 100 tackles this year and is a real bright young man. He could easily make an impact very early in his career."
Personal: Son of Chris and Galynn Crow ... Plans to major in business or finance.
Conque's Thoughts: "We graduated our all-time scoring leader in Jordan Wiggs, so Connor has a chance to come in here and make an impact right away. He has a strong leg and is one of the top kickoff guys in the state of Texas. I could see him coming in and competing for playing time from the get-go."
Personal: Born in Laurel, Maryland ... Son of Angela and the late Milliard Daniels ... Plans to major in criminal justice.
Conque's Thoughts: "One of the things we went after in receivers was length, and Reggie fits that bill. He's a great athlete that is very fluid and very fast. He played more in a run-based offense in high school so he didn't put up eye-popping numbers, but we got a chance to work with him and he's a guy that can stretch the field vertically."
Personal: Son of Lorenzo Easly and Shawn Coats ... Born in Owensboro, Kentucky ... Plans to major in nursing.
Conque's Thoughts: "In our opinion, Loren was one of the top running backs in the state of Texas. He can change the field from any down and distance. He had an ACL injury late in his senior season but is right on track to make a full recovery and will add some size to our backfield, giving us a consistent big play threat."
Personal: Son of Lawrence and Dora Ghansah ... Plans to major in interior design.
Conque's Thoughts: "Safeties and linebackers were a big priority for us and Lawrence is a long safety. He's also a track guy so it gives us some much needed speed. His best football is ahead of him as he is a big hitter and has a nose for the football. He was high on a lot of conference school's wish list."
Personal: Son of Green and Telina Hill ... Plans on majoring in nursing.
Conque's Thoughts: "Kiki is a big receiver that can play both inside and outside. He played multiple positions in high school from quarterback to running back to receiver to corner to linebacker - he's just a very gifted, explosive athlete that will give us some size. He's a very mature and smart young man and one that could well have a fast track to the field next year."
Personal: Son of Paul (Sr.) and Jennifer Hill ... Plans to major in business management.
Conque's Thoughts: "Paul personifies effort and desire. He's a big, strong young man from Van Vleck and is one that has been on our radar from the onset. He turned down a grayshirt at Rice and had multiple schools in our conference after him. He adds some depth to a group of veterans so we'll have a chance to slowcook him for a little bit possibly. But he's got an extremely bright future as a Lumberjack."
Personal: Son of Folorunsko and Edith Jacobs ... Collegiate major is undecided.
Conque's Thoughts: "Anthony is a standup defensive end in high school that can run like the wind. He's a contact player that we are going to move to linebacker, so there will be some adjustment there. But he can run sideline to sideline and once he gets some time at linebacker and understands the intricacies of the position we'll have ourselves an explosive linebacker."
Personal: Son of Timothy and Nequela Johnson ... Plans to major in kinesiology.
Conque's Thoughts: "Marcalas is a very explosive back from East Texas. He's very fast and plays bigger than his stature. An athlete in every sense of the word that played four different sports at Arp. He had offers from some other conference schools and was an early commitment to Colorado State, so we feel we got us a steal right here in our own back yard."
Personal: Son of Randy and Sharon Lock ... Plans to major in criminal justice.
Conque's Thoughts: "Travis comes to us from one of the most successful programs in the state at Temple. He's just a very focused, square-in-the-jaw young man that is extremely smart. He played at a high level in high school so I think the transition will be relatively smooth. With all the veteran linemen coming back, we'll have a chance to develop him and I think he'll become one of the really great linemen in the future."
Personal: Son of William and Belinda Martin ... Plans to major in physics or engineering.
Conque's Thoughts: "Jack is another long athlete that was highly sought-after, turning down a grayshirt at Boise State. He's a very smart young man and is very athletic. We have some depth at defensive end but he's a guy I look to make a big impact in the future as he gets bigger and stronger."
Personal: Son of Jonathan Martinez and Elia Raymond ... Collegiate major is undecided.
Conque's Thoughts: "Jordan had a dominating career, excelling as a one-cut running back. He has excellent balance as well as a nice blend of speed and power. He's a player that just knows how to find the endzone. He's a very smart young man with a high football I.Q. and has a chance to be quite an impact player."
Personal: Son of Bruce and Tracy Sam ... Collegiate major is undecided.
Conque's Thoughts: "Jonathan is another big receiver that we were looking for. He played down in Pearland so a very high level of football and he'll have a few familiar faces up here. He was primarily a defensive player his junior year and didn't put up huge numbers but we had him in camp and were able to see his explosiveness and ball skills. He really wants to be a Lumberjack and the sky is the limit for him."
Personal: Son of Travian and Meicha Smith ... Father played seven season for the Oakland Raiders after lettering four years as a linebacker at the University of Oklahoma ... Plans to major in business.
Conque's Thoughts: "We see him as an outside backer, an edge blitzer who played some inside linebacker and running back at Tatum, the home of SFA great Larry Centers. He's just an explosive athlete that can really run and has a nose for the football. He'll give us a lot of options with blitz packages and I'm looking forward to working with him."
Personal: Son of Troy and Adana Smith ... Collegiate major is undecided.
Conque's Thoughts: "Trevon will be a little bit of a projection for us. He played primarily quarterback at Bellaire and is a track athlete at a very quality high school program. We'll transition him to safety, although I could see him playing a few different positions. He'll help ensure some depth at that position as he is an excellent that we feel very fortunate to be able to get."
Personal: Son of Rodney Veasey Sr. and Zanetta Ward ... Plans to major in criminal justice.
Conque's Thoughts: "When you're only taking one corner in your class, you look at a lot of guys and get very particular about the type of player you're looking for. Rodney fit exactly what we were looking for - a player that could run, flex his hips and play a lot of man defense. He's a very confident young man with long arms and outstanding speed and is just a very gifted athlete."
Personal: Born in San Diego, Calif. ... Son of Bashay Ward and Lawrencia Capps ... Collegiate major is undecided.
Conque's Thoughts: "He played primarily running back with some safety in high school but we see him being able to make that transition to safety full time. He's a very physical young man, great speed and very gifted. He'll have an opportunity to contribute early in his career."
