CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Stephen F. Austin sits fourth through the first day of the weather-shortened Islander Classic at the Corpus Christi Country Club. The Ladyjacks posted a 26-over 314 through the opening round, seven shots back of first overall.
Originally scheduled to play two rounds, the tournament was shortened to just 36 holes due to cold and windy conditions that are blanketing the state of Texas. The final 18 holes are scheduled to be played tomorrow, beginning at 8:15 a.m.
The Ladyjacks posted the 26-over 314 and sit seven shots ahead of fifth-place Eastern Kentucky (33-over 321). SFA trails third-place Central Arkansas (24-over 312) by just two strokes and is five back of rival Sam Houston State (21-over 309) in second. Southland Conference foe Lamar sits atop the leaderboard with a 19-over 307.
Sophomore Piper Kyle was strong in her first appearance of the season, carding a 5-over 77 along with freshman teammate Erica Lautensack. The duo are tied for 11th overall, two shots better than sophomore Jessica White’s 7-over 79 as she is tied for 22nd overall.
Sophomore Ann Holcomb posted a 9-over 81 with junior Sydney Reed carding a 12-over 84 to round out the Ladyjack scorecard. Freshman Jamee Jorgensen posted an 8-over 80 as an individual, tying for 25th in the individual standings.
