SFA Finishes Fourth at Stormin' Ladyjack

2015 Stormin' Ladyjack Classic Final Results 
HOUSTON - Stephen F. Austin closed out its host tournament with a fourth-place finish at the 2015 SFA Stormin' Ladyjack Classic at the Palace Lanes in Houston. SFA finished the weekend with a 9-5 overall record and ranked second in scoring average at 206.4, but went 0-3 over the final day to finish fourth overall.
Entering Sunday's best-of-seven baker bracket format, the Ladyjacks sat second overall and squared off against top-ranked Nebraska for the fourth time on the weekend. The matches went back and forth as SFA won the even numbered games, winning the fourth 233-232 and capturing the sixth 202-201. But the Cornhuskers were able to outlast the Ladyjacks in the seventh game, posting a 249-212 victory to advance to the championship match.
SFA faced red-hot LIU-Brooklyn in round two, posting a convincing 257-193 win in game one. The Ladyjacks would win the third 188-153, then rallied to win the sixth 223-165 to force the deciding seventh game. But the eventual tournament champion Blackbird hit some key shots in the final game, edging the Ladyjacks 212-182.
Facing sixth-ranked Vanderbilt in the final match of the day, SFA had another strong showing in game one, posting a 267-200 victory over the Commodores. But that would be the final victory of the day for the Ladyjacks who dropped the final four games to Vanderbilt, finishing the three-day event in fourth-place.
The fourth-place showing is the second-highest tournament result for SFA this season behind only the Ladyjacks' second-place effort in the season-opening AllState Sugar Bowl Collegiate Bowling Invitational. It marks the fourth top-five finish for SFA who has placed in the top seven in all eight events on the season.
LIU-Brooklyn rode a 3-0 record over the final day to capture the 2015 SFA Stormin' Ladyjack Classic tournament title, besting top-ranked Nebraska 4-3 in the championship match. Vanderbilt finished third ahead of the Ladyjacks with Central Missouri rounding out the top-five. Sam Houston State finished sixth with Wisconsin-Whitewater, Maryland-Eastern Shore, St. Francis (N.Y.) and Sacred Heart rounding out the top-10.
SFA will now have a few weeks off before returning to action March 6-8 at the Music City Classic in Nashville, Tenn., hosted by Vanderbilt. It is the final regular season event for the Ladyjacks in the 2014-15 season, giving SFA one final tuneup before the Intercollegiate Team Sectionals and the first-ever Southland Bowling League tournament the following weeks.
