Ladyjacks Finish Fifth in Arlington

ARLINGTON, Texas – Stephen F. Austin closed out the 2015 Prairie View A&M Invitational with a pair of strong showings in the Sunday bracket play, finishing fifth among the challenging 12-team field. It marks the third top-five finish of the season for SFA who posted a 7-6 record on the weekend.
The Ladyjacks wrapped up pool play this morning taking on second-ranked Fairleigh Dickinson and giving the Knights all they could handle before falling 1,116-1,029. That dropped SFA’s record to 5-6 on the weekend and stuck the Ladyjacks in the six seed heading into the final bracket play.
SFA faced seventh-seeded Maryland-Eastern Shore in the opening round, dropping the opening game 223-156. But the Ladyjacks responded in a major way, taking the next four games, including 226-185 and 226-176 decisions in the final two games to seal the victory over the Hawks.
The final match of the day pitted SFA against a familiar opponent – Southland Bowling League rival Vanderbilt. The Ladyjacks had already beaten the Commodores earlier in the tournament and carried that momentum forward, as after SFA dropped the first two games the Ladyjacks won the final four, scoring over 200 in three of them to down Vandy and secure the fifth-place finish.
Top-ranked Nebraska captured the team title, defeating Fairleigh Dickinson in the championship match as Arkansas State and Central Missouri joined SFA in the top-five. Vanderbilt finished sixth with Maryland-Eastern Shore, North Carolina A&T, Sam Houston State and Valparaison rounding out the top-10.
Among the individual leaders for SFA, freshman Morgan Reising placed in the top-10 in scoring average, posting a 220.85 average for the weekend. Senior Chelsea King placed 14th with a 217.33 average with freshman Stephanie Schwartz finishing 29th with a 208.00 average.
After three tournaments in three weekends, SFA will get a break in the schedule before getting set to host the first major tournament in program history. Stephen F.
