Tournament Information
The 2015 SHSU Bearkat Women’s Invitational will be a 54-hole event, being played at Ravens Next Golf Course off Interstate-45 in Huntsville. The course will be a par-71, 6,067-yard layout with the first two rounds being played Monday, October 5, leading into the final round Tuesday, October 6. Both days will consist of a shotgun start, getting underway at 8:30 a.m.
Tournament Field
14 teams will compete in the event as it will have a heavy Southland Conference presence with seven conference schools competing in Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, Lamar, McNeese State, SFA, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and host Sam Houston State. The remaining field will consist of Southern Miss, Louisiana-Monroe, Texas Southern, Texas Wesleyan, Tyler Junior College, McLennan and Western Texas.
Ladyjack Scorecard
Six SFA golfers will be competing at this year’s event as the five-team scoring squad will consist of senior Sydney Reed, juniors Jessie White and Ann Holcomb and sophomores Jamee Jorgensen and Erica Lautensack with junior Courtney Ford competing as an individual.
SHSU Bearkat Women’s Invitational History
SFA returns to the tournament in Huntsville after missing the 2014 event. The Ladyjacks have fared well historically at the former Harold Funston Invitational, placing fifth in each of its previous three trips to Huntsville (2010, 2011 and 2013). Jessie White placed 11th at the tournament in 2013, shooting a 10-over 223, with Sydney Reed tying for 33rd with a 22-over 235.
Last Time Out
SFA used a record-setting team round and a program-record round from Erica Lautensack to make a run at the team title of the Bob Hurley ORU Shootout last week in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Ladyjacks held the lead with seven holes to play in round three, but SFA struggled down the stretch and settled for third overall with a 50-over 914. SFA shot a 295 in round two, the second-lowest round in program history, highlighted by Lautensack’s program record 5-under 67 as the Ladyjacks entered the final round four shots off the lead. Both Lautensack (T-15th) and Sydney Reed (T-20th) recorded top-20 individual finishes for the Ladyjacks, SFA’s first of the 2015-16 season.
Looking Ahead
SFA will be back in action for its third tournament in as many weeks next week as the Ladyjacks look to defend their team title at the 2015 UIW Women’s Invitational in San Antonio. SFA won the event in 2014, the first team title in program history, as the Ladyjacks will look to make it two straight, competing on October 12-13.
