Opening Frame
Third-ranked Stephen F. Austin heads east for the second tournament of the 2015-16 season, traveling to North Brunswick, New Jersey, for the 2015 Fairleigh Dickinson New Jersey Jamboree. The three-day event begins Friday morning before wrapping up with the championship bracket Sunday afternoon.
Tournament Information
The FDU New Jersey Jamboree gets underway at 9:30 a.m. CT as SFA opens up the tournament with five traditional team games. Saturday, competition resumes at 8 a.m. with five additional team games, which will set up the seedings for Sunday’s championship bracket. The Ladyjacks are aiming to earn one of the top six seeds to have a chance to compete for the 2015 FDU New Jersey Jamboree crown as Sunday’s best-of-seven bracket play gets underway at 8 a.m. CT.
Participating Teams
SFA will go up against a challenging field as 19 of the NTCA preseason top-25 will be in action in New Jersey this weekend. The third-ranked Ladyjacks are one of eight top-10 teams competing joined by No. 2 Arkansas State, No. 4 Fairleigh-Dickinson, No. 5 Vanderbilt, No. 6 Sam Houston State, No. 7 Wisconsin-Whitewater, No. 9 McKendree and No. 10 North Carolina A&T. Maryland Eastern Shore (No. 11), St. Francis (Pa.) (No. 12), Sacred Heart (No. 13), LIU-Brooklyn (No. 14), Valparaison (No. 15), St. Francis (N.Y.) (No. 16), Delaware State (No. 17), Kutztown (No. 18), Tulane (No. 19), Adelphi (No. 22) and Monmouth (No. 23) are also ranked among the top-25 with Bethune-Cookman, Chestnut Hill, Coppin State, Felician, Frankin Pierce, Howard, Morgan State and Saint Peter’s rounding out the 27-team field.
SFA Travel Squad
All nine Ladyjacks will make the trip to New Jersey this weekend, headlined by sophomore All-American Stephanie Schwartz who will be making her first appearance of the season. Junior All-American Paige Kraushaar looks to build off a strong opening weekend, as does sophomore Kelsi Anderson and true freshmen Paige Beeney and Dakotah Hazelwood, all of which saw significant time in the season-opening event in New Orleans two weeks ago.
Ladyjacks at the FDU Jamboree
This weekend marks the fourth time the Ladyjacks will compete in the FDU Jamboree as SFA has finished sixth or better in each of the previous three trips. The 2013 event highlights the Ladyjacks’ experience in the Garden State as SFA captured the team title, bookended by sixth-place finishes in both 2011 and 2014.
Last Time Out
SFA opened up the 2015-16 season with a fifth-place finish at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Invitational October 16-18 in Kenner, Louisiana. The Ladyjacks posted a 10-4 record over the three-day event, led by freshman Paige Beeney finishing eighth overall with a 204.5 scoring average in her first collegiate event. Junior Paige Kraushaar placed 14th in the individual standings with a 199.7 scoring average as well.
Looking Ahead
Following this weekend’s event, SFA will have a significant break as the Ladyjacks will have a month-long hiatus before returning to action. SFA’s next event will be down in Houston as the Ladyjacks will compete in the 2015 Sam Houston State Track Kat Klash December 4-6.
