The Lumberjacks posted a 22-over 590 through the opening 36 holes and sit among a handful of teams vying for position in Tuesday’s final round.
SFA began the two-round day with a 16-over 300 in round one, sitting 11th after the opening 18 holes. Junior Baxter Ward carded the low round in the early session, posting a 2-over 73, followed by a 3-over 74 by senior Luke Sheehan on the par-71 course. Fellow senior Nathan Weant sat third following his opening round 5-over 76.
The Lumberjacks felt more at ease in round two as SFA shaved 10 strokes off its opening round total to move up one spot into 10th in the team standings. Sophomore Tony Underwood notched the low round of the day for the ‘Jacks, carding an even-par 71, followed by 2-over 73s from Sheehan, Weant and freshman Angelo Leyvani, competing in his first collegiate event.

He holds a one shot lead on both Ward and Underwood’s 6-over 148 as the duo is among a seven player tie for 33rd. Weant posted a 7-over 149 with Leyvani’s 9-over 151 rounding out the Lumberjack competitors.
The second round 290 leapfrogged the Lumberjacks over Piney Woods rival Sam Houston State as the ‘Jacks hold a one-shot advantage over the Bearkats (23-over 591).
