NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin head women’s tennis coach Roberto Aspillaga announced the release of the upcoming 2015 season schedule for the Ladyjacks on Tuesday morning.
“I look forward to our spring play,” Aspillaga said. “Our team is stronger and better prepared than last year, and our schedule will give us opportunities to earn a national ranking, as well as enter our conference schedule ready to swing.”
SFA, coming off a 12-11 year (7-5 SLC) in Aspillaga’s first season with the Ladyjacks, will play 10 home matches in 2015. The home slate is highlighted by visits from Maryland, Texas State and Louisiana-Lafayette to the Schlief Tennis Complex in non-conference play.
SFA opens the season with a two-match homestand, beginning Friday, Jan. 23. The Ladyjacks will host Midwestern State at 10 a.m., before tilting with Tarleton State at 4 p.m. Following the two home matches, SFA will play three straight on the road.
The Ladyjacks will face both Dallas Baptist (9:30 a.m.) and North Texas (2 p.m.) in Denton, Texas, on Wednesday, Jan. 28. SFA will then close the month of January with a neutral site match against San Diego in Austin on Saturday, Jan. 31.
The Ladyjacks return to Nacogdoches and host Maryland (Feb. 7), Texas State (Feb. 8) and Lafayette (Feb. 14) to open the month of February, before facing Tulsa (Feb. 22) and New Mexico State (Mar. 6) on the road.
SFA will also step out of conference play on two different occasions. The Ladyjacks will play a two-game non-conference stretch at UTSA (Mar. 15) and against Cincinnati (Mar. 18) in Houston, later visiting Louisiana Tech (Mar. 22).
The 2015 Southland Conference season kicks off on Sunday, March 8, hosting Central Arkansas. Other home conference matches include Abilene Christian (Mar. 21), Northwestern State (Mar. 29), McNeese State (April 11) and Nicholls (April 12).
